The Sort-of Tragic Anakin Skywalker
We all know that Anakin Skywalker is supposed to be a tragic figure. He was drawn to the Dark Side by Palpatine. However, when I first saw Revenge of The Sith, Anakin didn't strike me as completely tragic. I only felt sorry for him for a little bit, and the rest of the emotions I felt when I saw Anakin on the screen were hatred. He massacred a whole Jedi temple! No one was spared, not even the younglings! That was what put him over the line for me. He obviously didn't do this just for Padme either. He was a megalomanical mass-murderer by the end of Attack of The Clones. What probably annoyed me the most though was the tantrums. As opposed to striving to become a better Jedi, or even tapping into the Dark Side, all he did for a while was complain to Padme. If you want to be a better Jedi or whatever, do something about it, don't whine to your future-wife. Fortunately, this behavior ended in Revenge of The Sith and I was relieved. Coming back to the point, Anakin kind of dug himself in a ditch. First, he helps murder Mace Windu, then what? He can't go back to the Jedi. So he joins up with Palpatine. Then, he goes to the temple and annihilates the Jedi, killing the younglings at this point. Now he's taking a woe is me approaches, and starts feeling sorry for himself. This makes him choke Padme, telling her power is his only love now. Now he starts blaming Obi-Wan, while Obi-Wan is just trying to help. He puts the icing on the cake when he gets arrogant, and gets himself sliced into pieces. So now he's just sitting their, burining alive. What's he thinking? I think bad day would be an understatement. Anyway, it seems to me however tragic it may have been, and don't get me wrong, it was tragic, Anakin still had choices. And he made choices, they just seemed like terrible choices to me.
