Padmé worked with the Refugee Relief Movement, was an Apprentice Legislator, was Queen, saved Naboo, was an influencal senator, etc...
Aaaannd then she decided to sit in her apartment and cry while her husband wiped out the Jedi Order and conquered the entire galaxy? Huh.
But that's a subject for another time and another blog entry. This entry isn't about Padmé, it's about her family. That's right, the Naberries.
I noticed that while we see an enormous amount of the Skywalkers in Star Wars, we get only a glimpse of Padmé's family, in AOTC.
So on that note, let's take a look at what we know about the Naberrie family, starting with mama.
Unfortunately, there's a very small amount of information available online about Padmé's mother, Jobal. At some point she lived in a small village in the mountains, where she married Padmé's father, Ruwee. Ruwee was the son of Winama Naberrie, and with classic Naberrie generosity, he was a builder, and often volunteered his services to fellow villagers. As a young man, he worked in the Refugee Relief Movement, as Padmé later would too.
Ruwee and Jobal had two daughters, Padmé and Sola. Like any parents would, they wanted to provide their children with the most opportunity and the best education possible. This was not possible up in the mountains, so they moved to Theed, the capital city of Naboo. There Ruwee taught at a local university, became involved in local politics, and continued his philanthropic work. Like her husband, Jobal also worked to help those less fortunate.
Padmé had one sister named Sola. Sola Naberrie attended a Naboo university where she met her future husband -- a young architect by the name of Darred Janren. Although it is customary for a couple to take the man's name upon marriage, Sola and Darred recognized the political importance of the Naberrie family and kept hers instead.
Sola had two daughters as well, Pooja and Ryoo. Ryoo, the eldest, was named after a blue and yellow Naboo flower. She had a pet voorpak named Sanani and a strong temperament which wouldn't allow her to "keep quiet about her dislike at having to learn classic futhork calligraphy in school," as the databank says.
And then there's Pooja. Four years old during
Attack of the Clones, she had curly hair and was named after her father's grandmother. For a career, she considered everything from teacher to pilot before ultimately settling on --
Senator? Yes. In the Galactic Empire, Pooja Naberrie served as representative of Naboo, the same position once held by both Padmé and Palpatine. I can't help but wonder whether she was as influential as the two of them. She was, of course, a rebel sympathizer.
Who'd have guessed?
:-D
