The Real World Tatooine
David Edison has traveled to Tunisia, and he brought back photos and directions.

Ignoring his sticking an 's' on the end of 'Jedi,' which is as you know the most embarassing science fiction faux pas, I really had no idea that scenes in Star Wars were filmed in actual villages that actually look as though they were pulled straight out of Star Wars.

Or that something straight out of Star Wars was actually straight out of reality. These towns look just like Tatooine, albeit with a spice of Earthly fashion and technology too.

I dunno. Guess I sorta figured it was all CG and good ol' props.

Be sure to click on his links, else you miss out on the pictures!

ROTS is the only SW movie to be filmed entirely in the studio. Not one thing in the real world. Most of the OT is real world scenes and if not, they are lil' buildings in huge ones. Or done in the studio. Tatooine is all done in the real world desert. Even most of AOTC and TPM.

Tatooine is all done in the real world desert.

I did realize that, say, the Lars Homestead was a real place still out there in the Tunisian desert, but I didn't realize how much of film Tatooine was real and visitable.

Although much different and much more worn down these days.
