Uncle Owen's Memory
I have been pondering this for some time now and I'm sure others have, though I've not yet seen posted.
To begin: We all know about C-3PO's mind wipe and why this was done and we have also discussed why R2D2's mind wasn't wiped. I would now like to address something obvious to question: Why doesn't Owen Lars seem to remember C-3PO when purchasing him form the Jawas? I would figure, with Threepio being such the distinct outspoken droid he is, that Uncle Owen would recognize him as being, or being very similar to, the same protocall droid that came along with that Shmi lady. With Owen being so adament about keeping Luke safe and preventing him from following in Ol' Obi-Wan's footsteps, why would this seem to just slip his mind. Perhaps it was Threepio's gold finish, though faded. I can't seem to come up with any conclusive answers to this little pondering of mine. Please let me know all your thoughts. May the Force be with yall!

There are two reasons that i can think of for Owen to not remember C-3PO. the 1st (the more plausable reason), It would have been very difficult for GL to explain how in this brand new movie that only Owen and Veru new this droid that landed in the middle of the desert. Or the more likely. the 2nd (the more "story oriented" idea) Owen simply chose not to remember 3PO because he didn't want Luke questioning him as to how he knew this droid.

Could someone please tell me exactly as to why C-3PO's mind was wiped but not R2-D2's wasn't, i never found out the correct reason

i think its because C3P0 didnt have gold platings and second of all he got more of a personality later

Thats probably why he said "I have no need for a protocal droid."

Good question as to why wipe C3PO but not R2's memory.

Outside the story it makes sense becuse R2 cant speak to anyone except through an interpreter and also its kinda neat to know the one person he does talk to, 3PO, he never talks to about such things. It just makes the R2 character a little deeper and neater.
It also helps to explain why R2 usualy seems to be a few pages ahead of everyone else when it comes to knowing whats going on in the galaxy.

Inside the story though, I cant think of a good reason to wipe one and not the other.
I mean, why wipe 3PO in the first place?

I doubt he would reconize him protocol droids like C-3PO were pretty standard in the galaxy we see two silver versions one in PTM and one in ESB.

Vader & Obi Won also didn't seem familiar with either droid.

I was going to say that too. Vader didn't even recognize his own creation, why should owen? Protocol droids were pretty standard fare around the galaxy. C-3PO looked like all the others.

I always thought Artoo's mind wasn't wiped because he was part of the main plan. From what I gather, he kind of looked after Liea. He basically had a NEED TO KNOW status.

GL has said that droids were basically appliances... one was like another and people did not get attached. Luke and Anakin seem to be the exceptions. The droids meant something to them.
Also, do you really think Threepio could have kept a secret for all that time? Not likely. Artoo was much more discreet.

I think the wiping of Threepio (and not Artoo) was just a funny way to lump one more indignity on this poor droid. He seems to be made to suffer.

Very good question!! You think that Owen probably hasn't seen very many protacal droids around in the desert and might have remembered one. But I don't think that he saw 3PO with his new gold plating before ANH. So that might have thrown him off. ;)

I think the novel stated that 3PO talked about the kid(s) as Padme's to R2. When this conversation was overheard in the Tantive by Bail, he decided to have 3PO's memory wiped.

He didn't remember the droids because he was in the background of the farm in episode 2 and probably paid no attention to a couple of seemingly common droids.

I dont think he really cares about any droids and just thinks of them as appliances, and doesnt remember them. He might just not recognize him for he gold platings and it has been twenty two years.
