American Idol and the "star wars girl"
Well hello there everyone! Last time I blogged was about a parsec away in August letting you all know I was trying out for American Idol. Well, the episode I was featured in has come and gone and so much has been happening to me since Tuesday night. But first I would like to start of with an ol' fashioned critique of my performance. In a nutshell, well in my opinion, my audition stank! I certainly did not perform up to my usual potential. I believe it was a combination of a few things:

One- I was exhausted! I was up at 5am, in line at the hotel at 6am, the judges didn't arrive until around noon time, and being the second to last that day, I didn't audition until 5, 5:30pm! Somewhere in between there, I was tired!

Two- I was nervous! Despite my openness in the interviews, my insides were a ripping! And then, I broke the golden rule of AI, I let my nerves get to me. I think this was most definitely reflected in how my pitch, vibrato etc. was off, and how the whole performance was, well, as Randy put it, strange.

and Three: It just wasn't my time. Despite all the awesome people I met that day, including Ryan Seacrest, whom is a sweetheart, as a singer/performer I had a bad day. It happens, oh well. Better luck next time.

And now on to my little tirade thereafter. First off let me apologize to any parents out there that had to go on emergency "damage control" for their younglings. I admit, especially since seeing it, that the language I used was inappropriate for what has proven to be a very family friendly show. I would not encourage anyone to respond and act as the way I did. That's just the immature side of me. I've been working on correcting it for many years. So once again, I apologize.

As far as the whole tangent went, take away the Leia buns and goth outfit, that's pretty much the way I am. Once I start running my big mouth, there ain't no shutting me up! It's a trait I get from my Grandma, God rest her soul (she passed away in 2002, my Grandpa has since re-married). But ask anyone who knows me personally, once something ticks me off, even if it shouldn't, my mouth will speak faster than my head thinks. In fact, in the car on the way home I though to myself "Wow, my audition really did kinda stink. I shouldn't have gone all off on things the way I did." But oh well, it happened and I can't change the past. Only learn from it!

I have also read a few comments on the blogs here that people feel I didn't represent the Star Wars community very well. Let me just say that I was at American Idol for MYSELF and only to represent myself. Had I actually said "Hey, I'm here to represent all my Star Wars buddies", then I can definitely see where people could get upset, or want to cringe. But please, as Star Wars fans, don't be embarrassed over my actions. I'm only one out of millions of amazing people, many of whom I had the pleasure to meet at CIV, which I've yet to blog about, go figure! I am a goofball and a self proclaimed "dork", and I know that not every Star Wars fan is like me. As I've said before, we are a multitude of different and unique personalities and talents. And if some of you feel I was mocking or making fun of myself, it's just a sort of guard I put up. Better to laugh first than to be laughed at!

All in all, once again, I have to say that I hold no regrets with my experience with American Idol. And even though I stand by my opinions expressed in my pathetic lil' tirade, I do feel the show has brought to us some amazing talents such as Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, and one of my faves, Carrie Underwood. I hope this season does the same.

Like I said in the beginning of this blog, a lot has been happening to me since Tuesday night. Not 5 minutes after the show went off air, the phone calls began, one being from Access Hollywood. Wednesday was the brunt of the phone calls, radio stations from Philly, New York, Phoenix, Detroit, and Los Angeles etc. Then I got a call from the Maury Povich show in New York asking if I wanted to come down and perform on an "Undiscovered Talents" show theme. I agreed and look forward to it next week. I'll be sure to let you all know when the show will air. Also I've been invited by two of the local radio stations up here to perform at an event each of them is sponsoring. There was also a really awesome article on me in one of my local newspapers, The Journal Inquirer. I'll see if I can post the article and the pic on another blog. Who knows what could come out of all of this. I take my love for music and singing very seriously, and though I may not have the best voice ever, if the opportunity is given for my voice, music and lyrics to be heard around the world, that would really be a dream come true. But for now, I'm taking it all in stride, day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute. I'm not allowing myself to become to overly excited, because you never know when the dream will be over.

Anyway, I hope I was able to explain myself well here. But please, please don't feel embarrassed over me or by me. I'm only one person. I will say though, that Ben Haar fella had by far the best outfit! I need to get me one! I was chatting with him at the auditions, and yes, he was only there to get on TV. He was told by the two exec. producers that the only way they would let him go in front of Simon, Randy and Paula was if a camera crew could tape him getting....waxed...OUCH! I found it pretty humorous.

Well anywhos, until next time, May the Force be with us ALL! Tata for now!

Yours truly,
The "Star Wars Girl"
a.k.a. Christina

P.S. I've decided that if I were to try out again for American Idol, I'm gonna leave the buns at home!

That other guy. He just flat out scared me. He was the one that probably scared me the most. More than that other girl that got all mad. Not you. That one with the blond hair and the gigantic earings.

You go girl! I'm thrilled that you're getting a spotlight -- it's such a nice epilogue to the whole thing. Make us all proud! :)

Other than your tirade after the audition, I thought that you were awesome! I was glad to see someone in a Star Wars outfit. (The Leia bikini dude...that wasn't an outfit.)

MTFBWY! God bless!

I haven't even seen the show, but it doesn't matter (to me). I admire and respect you for everything you're doing. A lot of us have big aspirations, but it takes a ton of courage to get out there and actually do it, and part of doing it involves facing rejections and disappointments, and still trudging through. From what I've read in your posts, and a little bit by other's, you certainly have what it takes as far as I can tell. The criticisms you will receive are part of the package. Stay true to yourself (you're doing a tremendous job of it), only look bavk to learn (as you have) and keep facing forward. You go girl! *My* only regret is that I didn't pick up as "Punk Leia" first, because I totally fit that persona! ;)

Something tells me that you'll be at the finals, up on stage with Man leia, and George Lucas is gonna come out and surprise you.

And who knows? You may get your own autograph booth at C5, if they have one.

Christina - you ARE talented. I know you dressed to try to be acknowledged and when thousands are all there for the same reason, that is a smart decision....but if it's not who you are, the "costume" probably drained some of your energy because you couldn't be yourself. But it did work - you have interest from others....

I watched and commented to a friend who was also watching that I was surprised at how well you sang. For some reason I figured the costume signified less than a good voice. I was wrong. and here is where, perhaps (who knows?) the costume went wrong.

The judges couldn't believe the talent that was there............and in some part this probably could be attributed to the Leia-bikini-clad dude. Actually I saw this guy at CIV..he was very funny and actually a sweet guy but I think the Star Wars well had already been dipped in before you arrived.

So..don't give up on you, your voice, your talent. You DID succeed in so many ways: 1. You got on television (there were thousands who didn't) 2. You were smart - your costume worked against you - perhaps, personally - but it worked for you in getting the attention of Ryan and the producers/judges. 3. You have other doors open and terrific that you are walking through the thresholds. and the #1 primo reason to be proud of yourself: You represented the Star Wars community in great fashion and we are proud of you .........
I know I am....
I tip my Star Wars cap to you...and thank you.

I only caught a bit of your performance, because I had to leave for work that night. Missed the tirade, but hey that happens. I bawled like a baby infront of everybody at a ballet theater audition, so I've been there and done that, so I understand. No need to appologize. ;)

You've got a lot of guts to audition for it, and I admire that. I'm scared to death to sing infront of other people.

hey there!

I missed the show so have yet to see your performance, but I totally stand by you; you took your shot and like you said, you had a bad day...it happens.

as far as the "tirade," I find it totally understandable; long day, exhausted, upset...again, it happens.

hey Christina, just remember, even William Hung got a record deal LOL....so who knows where this will lead you? seems you're getting some attention from it and hopefully you can take that somewhere positive...best wishes to you and good luck!

Well Christina, I just watched the YouTube piece of your audition. And I agree with you 100%...You reacted because you were tired. I call that E over I: Emotions over Intellect. WE all do it too. So, you are not alone my dear. ;) I probably would have done the same thing. Or just froze and stared with a blank look on my face. :^O

I recently had a good friend tell me that singers tend to sing how they think they should be heard. That can drive the pitch off whack. You might know this girl. She's been seen around these parts and is a singer herself. Her name is Jediprincess77. Anyhoo, it's always good to get feedback from your peers, eh? ;)

Good for you. And I really mean that. Good for you in going for your dream. I thought you were so brave in going to the auditions in your CIV outfit. And you weren't as bad as you say you were. Sure, it probably wasn't your best performance, but hey, give yourself some credit... you did fairly well!

I'm happy that someone pointed out some of the flaws in AI - the fact that they're only looking for one type of image (even if it was in a ranting kind of way... ;)).

Whatever comes of all this, good luck in it! Keep on rocking, and MTFBWY!!

once something ticks me off, even if it shouldn't, my mouth will speak faster than my head thinks.

It happens to all of us... luckily it seems to mellow with age....

When I met you at C-IV I had no idea you were a singer! I think it's great you tired out for AI, most would not have the courage to do so.

I think those who were cringing over the idea that you were representing all SW geeks are not blaming you as much as they blame the media and those who try to make people THINK you are representing the rest of us.

We're all different, just like any other group of folks, but for some reason we've been stereotyped....

It's not right, but it's the way it is... I say go for whatever fame you can get out of. it..B-)

Congrats on making it as far as you did in the auditions and I'm sorry you didn't go on further. I realize that nerves and exhaustion really play a part in the whole performance. Good for you that you gave a great shot, and there's always next time. And good luck on the upcoming performances!

I thought it was great that you went up there wearing your Leia hair!
And quite frankly, I thought you were one of the more interesting auditions they've bothered to air yet! Great job!
