A Twelve Step Program for the 'Star Wars' Addict
Do you struggle with a secret, Star Wars addiction? While at work, do you make constant movie-references that your co-workers find irritating and juvenile, but you find funny? Do you spend more time balancing your Star Wars collection-buying budget than doing your bills? Do you wake up in the middle of the night, conceiving tactics to dodge ceiling-mounted auto-cannons while escaping a detention cell? Do you spend all your free time whacking the snot out of younger siblings with your 'force F-X' lightsaber?
...Do you have a hyperspace membership?

If you answered yes to any of these questions (or yes to the last question) then this blog is for you. This is an easy-to-follow, clearly written 12-step program designed with you in mind. If you feel like your Star Wars obsession is taking over your life, then it's time for you to take action. Today!

Quotes from users:

"I spent years of my life under the bane of my Star Wars addiction. Now, with this program, I'm finally free."

"It's as if a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders."

"I used to watch the OT every weekend...sometimes two or three times a day. But now, with this easy program, I'm finally overcoming my problem. I haven't watched Star Wars in three months! I feel so clean!"

"I didn't even realize what I was doing was wrong until I found this program."

Step 1: Know that you are not alone in your struggle.
There are hundreds of thousands of people who deal with the exact same problems that you do. (Chances are, they're reading this right now.) If you feel like your addiction is spinning out of control, then you are simply joining one of the many in the ranks of stormtrooper-armor wearing freaks. There is no shame in your battle, so long as you choose to fight.

Step 2: Identify what parts of your life your Star Wars addiction has taken over.
Knowing where you are weak is vital to overcoming an addiction. When are you most tempted to watch Clone Wars reruns? What time of day are you most likely to begin building another lightsaber hilt from scratch? Understanding where you are weakest, and avoiding those places, is key.

Step 3: Decide to fight.
Nobody can beat this addiction but you. While programs like this can help, you must decide to strike at the heart of the problem, within you...face your destiny!

Step 4: Join others.
Find others in your area who may deal with the same problems. Connect with others who are dealing with or coming out of their addiction. Ask them what they're doing to fight back!

Step 5: Don't give up, even when it gets rough.
You will face plenty of setbacks in your fight. But don't give up! One lost battle is not a lost war. The next thing you know, you'll be able to blow this thing and go home.

Step 6: Go 'cold turkey'.
The best way to overcome your addiction is not gradually coming off it, but to remove yourself from it entirely. Don't allow yourself to come close to your computer if you sense you're going to pop in 'KOTOR' and have a few hours of leveling.

Step 7: Tell others of your decision.
The more people that know, the better. Why? So they can witness the changes in you! And to help you win your battle.

Step 8: Remove all 'Star Wars' related items from your home.
The less temptation you have to deal with, the better. That means all your Star Wars games, Clone Wars volumes, your soundtracks, and yes, even the trilogies themselves.

Step 9: Ditch your 'Star Wars' friends.
If the friends that you once spent hours with, lightsaber dueling and having deep, philosophical Star Wars discussions with continue to be a part of your life, they will drag you back down. Unless they, too, decide to change, they can only hurt you in your quest for Star Wars freedom.

Step 10: Apologize.
Apologize to anyone you may have hurt or offended in your 'Star Wars' induced haze. When they see the new you, free from your bondage, they will forgive you and you can all move on.

Step 11: Journal
Keep a journal of your struggle, to vocalize your thoughts and to help you better understand your problem. One day, you'll look back, and it'll be an inspiration to you as you remember how far you had fallen down the Death Star shaft of fandom, and how far you've come now.

OR

Step 12: Help a friend out of their addiction
Sometimes, the best way to help yourself is to help others. If you know someone who is struggling, be their pal to lean on as they go through the withdrawals of canceling their Hyperspace subscription.

You can beat this, along with many others. So come away from the Dark Side of your life and "Force" yourself to return to the person you really are...Star Wars free!
