 | A collection of inconsistencies from OT to PT |
Here is a constantly growing collection of the scenes and dialogue that I personally feel leave inconsistencies between the Original Trilogy and the Prequels. Note that this list is not all inclusive as some of you may have your own personal "inconsitency favorites" which I may not agree with. So I will stick to only the ones I find annoying.
If you know of others, please post a comment or mail me and I will consider adding it to the list.
1. Luke and Leia should have been seperated at childbirth (as they were in ROTS), but with the following changes: Leia to be raised by her Mother, Padme, and Luke by Owen and Beru on Tatooine. Leia clearly remembered her "real mother" from dialogue in ROTJ (see below). It would have been enough if it were only for the first three or four years of her life.
2. We didn't need to see Anakin as such a young boy. I know this was Lucas' way of getting us emotionally attached to him and seeing him as such an innocent (a higher shock factor when such a cute innocent child becomes supreme evil), but this is where most of the PT inconsistencies originate.
3. The Clone Wars should have started in Episode 1, carried us through episode 2 and ended in 3. ATOC would have then shown us more of Anakin as a Jedi general (his "cunning warrior" that Ben spoke to Luke of in ANH). ROTS would have been very much as it is now, but giving us only a bit more suited Vader and him hunting down Jedi. Say, 30 minutes instead of 2. Plus this could have left room for Leia getting to know Padme before her death at the end of the film.
4. Anakin should have known Owen better than just a "Hi where's my mom?" relationship. Owen spoke of him as though he knew him well (and didn't approve of his choices).
5. Obi should have trained other Jedi in addition to Anakin. That way his line, "He was a pupil of mine..." would have been even more tricky because we would know him as a trainer of Jedi (and not just Anakin alone).
6. Yoda's "No, there is another.." line suggests Ben had ruled Leia out of being a possible "hope" for the erradication of the Empire. Wish it were covered somehow.
7. Would have been nice if Anakin spoke with Obi about having a son and wishing him to have his lightsaber. As it is now it seems strange because all Jedi make their own sabers so why wouldn't Luke?
8. Obi-Wan didn't recognize Artoo in ANH so I wish they didn't have so many scenes together in the prequels. It would make it more conceivable that he didn't know him by name.
UPDATE (re. Leia's relationship with her mother):
Based on some feedback I include the dialogue between Luke and Leia about their mother to show how clear it is that Leia knew her:
LUKE: Leia... do you remember your mother? Your real mother?
LEIA: Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.
LUKE: What do you remember?
LEIA: She was very beautiful. Kind, but...sad.
How can there be any doubt?
