Life Imitates Art
I know this is a different sort of blog than the kind I've promised to do; and it does feel a little too much like a standard meaningless weblog, but I felt like writing it, now that I'm established (kind of) in the Star Wars Blog community.

Before I headed off to college last summer, I was having some interesting problems with one of my best friends. Scratch that, I was having an interesting problem with my best friend. This was a guy I had been there with for years, we'd watched each others' backs and had some great times. But that spring, he'd fallen madly in love with this girl and was far more protective and suspicious than any high school senior in love had a right to be. Sound familiar yet?

Yes, at the very time when Revenge of the Sith was gracing our movie screens, I was basically facing Obi-Wan's problem. My friend and I did in fact come to blows over this, though not on the epic scale our Jedi counterparts did. The similarities were so strong even my subconcious picked up on it, and I had a dream that was essentially the end of Revenge of the Sith with the three of us replacing Ewan, Hayden and Natalie.

I was desperately trying to help my friend save his relationship here, but he only saw imagined deception. He had a stranglehold (metaphorically speaking) on his girlfriend, and I could do nothing to stop him. Fortunately for us, I did not end up lopping off three of his limbs and leaving him to immolate, and he and his girlfriend are still together, though he remains fiercely protective and unhealthily suspicious of every remotely male person.

It just goes to show two things: The old mantra "life imitates art" is in fact true, and even incredibly similar situations can resolve themselves in vastly different ways.
