Movie Magic
If you go to TheForce.Net or AtomFilms, you will see many, many films based on our favorite saga, all made by people with far more enthusiasm, talent, and budget than most of us will ever have. Well, maybe not enthusiasm.

Anyway, I bring this up because, while it has long been my dream to make a Star Wars parody/fanfilm, Only in the past few months has anything actually gotten done on it. And that's not saying a whole lot. We've shot maybe eighteen minutes of footage, most of which I probably won't use. All I've got to show for it is a short, though highly amusing teaser trailer I put together.

I'm not asking for sympathy here, heck, my friends and I are having a blast, but I am saying you should go out and see some cool fanfilms. Those people put ample amounts of blood, sweat, and tears into those productions and they deserve to be seen!

(thoughtful analysis will return in a few weeks, we're coming up on finals here!)

Post edit: I thought about it, and though I'm a little embarassed about this one I'll give you the link. I posted it on MySpace this morning. Just so you know, this is still pretty rough, without rotoscoped sabers or blaster fire, but you get the idea. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=673856967&n=2

I agree with you, obiwan122586!
If previous years' entries are any indication, this year's crop of fanfilms should be pretty darn good!
I can attest, at least as an observer, what it takes to develop and actually film, a movie. Since age 12, my daughter has spent her summers filming her own movies. She spends her free time during the school year developing a script and getting her cast in place. Once school lets out, it's into rehearsals right away. Filming begins two weeks later!

By early fall, she starts editing. That's on top of her heavy school load! (She's a junior in high school now.) Last summer's movie was her most ambitious to date, and ended up being a two-hour feature!
She is a Star Wars fan, and I keep encouraging her to try a SW parody for the film competition. She says she just hasn't come up with a good idea for one yet. Maybe next year.
In any case, it has been GL's and Steven Spielberg's inspiration that has led her to pursue a career in filmmaking. They followed their dreams, and that is what she intends to do.
Who can ask for anything more.

I hope you finish your parody one of these days. It would be great to view your take on our favorite saga!
Good Luck, and MTFBWY :)

(P.S. sorry this went on so long!)

Yes - Good luck to you. I want to make a fan flick too. Maybe an animated and a live one both. It would be great if you could link to your trailer, even if its still in the rough - and if you have it on the web. We're probably the best test audience around :D

As a filmmaker myself, I can only agree with you (and everyone else who's commented). It is alot of work. Best of luck, and may the Force be with you!
