So I was taking a little study break from finals this morning and I stumbled across "Return of Pink Five". I'm a huge fan of the first two films, so I was pretty excited. But once again, just as it happened with "Pink Five Strikes Back" and even the original "Pink Five" I found myself asking "How the HECK did they do THAT?!" We're talking serious budget here people!

I was amazed in the second film when they apparently had a life-size R2-D2 prop and a really good Yoda puppet. And now it looks like they have a life-size X-Wing (or at least part of one) there on set! Not to mention the plethora of costumes, props, and sets that look as authentic as anything from Return of the Jedi. Sure, I'll assume some (or even a lot) of the sets are bluescreen, but still, a very impressive undertaking and WELL DONE!

You know what R2-D2 is for my film? A large, painted cardboard box with a person under it! My "jedi robe" is a brown bathrobe. We took footage of Battlefront II to use as ship flybys and so forth. It helps that we're not doing a quote/unquote serious film, and chinciness is just fine. There are so many poor college students out there who wish they could scrape together the budget to do a decent fanfilm, it makes me incredibly happy to see somebody out there with an awesome budget making Star Wars fanfilms! It's inspiring! I can look at it and go, "Yes! These guys did THIS, we can totally do OUR film!"

I hope this didn't come off as a "I wish I was that cool/shower me with pity/It's not fair/It's all Obi-Wan's fault, he's holding me back" whine. It wasn't. I suppose the point of this blog is that for every totally awesome film like "Pink Five" there are dozens of shoddier pieces done with just as much love for the film but no budget. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what your movie looks like as long as you had fun making it and people have fun watching it.
