He killed at least one Jedi on Geonosis. He gave Obi-Wan a heck of a fight when the Jedi tried to bring him in for questioning. He shot his former partner from across a busy Coruscant street. And, of course, his clones are directly responsible for carrying out Order 66. But, is Jango Fett really such a bad guy?
Sure, he gets clumped with the villains all the time: He's one of the knights for the Dark Side in the Star Wars Chess Set. He's one of the villains in Battlefront II, even killing his clones on the Kamino and Kashyyyk maps. But, just watching
Attack of the Clones can give you the impression that really, he's just defending himself and his "son". And when I read the
Jango Fett comic from Dark Horse, which portrays him as even more of a softie; playing with his son and his action figures, saving the life of someone who previously tried to kill him, etc. I realized Jango is probably the most misunderstood character in the saga. Just read his
bio on Wookieepedia. He helped save Coruscant, and put an end to a drug cartel.
So, what we have is a slightly crazy, pretty well-known figure who (judging from Matt Stover's
Shatterpoint was well-liked in general. Who's a good analogy of that in our world? I almost hate to sound disrespectful, but yeah, Steve Irwin. Mace Windu killed the Steve Irwin of the
Star Wars universe.
On the other hand, Boba's a scary punk.
