Live From Oboe-Wan's Kitchen: Episode 8
It's Halloween! Which means if you have kids, you're gearing up for a big party this weekend. Costumes, candy, decorations and of course some fun fun treats for the kids to eat other than Sugar Daddy's and Smarties. (Not that there's anything wrong with those!)

Here's a great Halloween treat, a variation on the classic Rice Krispies Treats, that will have adults & kids drooling like vampires!

And here's a picture of the satisfied Padawan-Wan. This picture was taken in 2003, so he had only just turned 2!

...............

sorry, i drifted off there for a second, trying to figure out where 5 years have gone....

PADAWAN-WAN'S SPIDERWEB CRUNCH

2 Cups (12 oz, 1 regular bag) of semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 Cup creamy peanut butter - divided
1/3 Cup powdered/confectioner's sugar
3 Cups Rice Krispies

[1] HEAT chocolate chips and 3/4 C. of the peanut butter in a double boiler over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat, add sugar. Stir vigorously until smooth.

[2] Place cereal in a large bowl. Add 1 C. of the chocolate mixture and stir until coated. Put this all into a 10 or 12 inch pie pan, pressing it firmly into the sides & leveling off the top. Pour remaining chocolate mixture onto the center. Spread w/rubber stirrer to within about a 1/2 inch of the sides of the pan.

-=edit=- I just made a spiderweb for Halloween and what I ended up doing was mixing ALL the chocolate/peanut butter mixture into the rice krispies - in other words, I did not spread any over the top. It did not mess up anything and in fact I think it made the whole candy just a bit more chocolate-y. mmmm......... So there ya go, another easy option.

[3] To make the WEB: put remaining peanut butter into a plastic baggie, cut a small (very small) hole in the corner. Pipe onto chocolate in concentric circles. Use a toothpick to pull from center to edges to form the spider web design.

[4] CHILL for 30 minutes in the refrigerator. Present the spider web with a big fake plastic spider for the full effect! Cut into wedges to serve.
12-16 servings

or if you live in OUR house, we polished that puppy off in one night. :p

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

Well, we don't have kids, but we try to make up for it by giving out huge bags of candy to each one that shows up to our door (currently outlined with a light-up Halloween archway). We already know how many to expect based on the past two years and have already made up our treat bags. I warned my wife, as I do every year, that we'll probably have kids 'double-up' on us because of the quality/quantity of the treats we hand out. It's always a good time.

Perfect! Mrs 01 is terrified of spiders, and this will keep her away from my treat :)

Oh, and DJ, judging by your photo, you've got nothing to worry about - I'm making it my mission to drop 50lbs before C4 (I may blog about this later).

Thanks Oboe-Wan - just 5 days to go!

We tried that once when we were kids, but people were smart onto us, they passed out pennies the 2nd time around!!

Well, this is not in the weight loss plan, but you'll feel better for having had the chocolate!

Yum! :D
You have made me want to go and cook something, as opposed to avoiding anything involving the stove or oven like the plague! [looks around in terror at mere thought]

better yet, get a real tarantula to guard it for you!!!!

Umm.... I'll pass that bit..... Perhaps there's an alternative arachnid? Tarantulas are rather fuzzy to be sitting on top of sticky and delicious food.

Mmmmm! That looks so yummy, Oboe! Unfortunately, I need to start picturing myself in the little metal Leia number I'm working on for C4...so I probably shouldn't make one.

I'm making it my mission to drop 50lbs before C4 (I may blog about this later).
Please do, nob! We can start a C4 weight-loss support blog circle. ;)

Wait, you must eat all of the PADAWAN-WAN'S SPIDERWEB CRUNCH first before you go to the gym. :D

My type of man!!

Can't wait to try it, Oboe-Wan. And don't send any to DV. Make sure he makes it himself. ;)

Well, if you're having a party then you'll probably measure it out so it feeds as many kids as possible. But in the privacy of our own home & family... um... yeah, mom & dad pretty much at 3/4 of that by ourselves. Padawan-Wan was lucky he got ANY!! LOL!

mmmmmmmmm! Perhaps tomorrow the Padawans and I will have to try this! It sounds like fun as well as delicious!!

We just got back from trick-or-treating.....it has been raining, hailing, sleeting and blowing 30+ mph winds all day, but of course that didn't keep us down! Jango Fett and his Clone Trooper counterpart had an amazing time! This is Halloween in NE Ohio....one year it's 70 degrees, and the next its like this!!

Thanks for the cool idea! I'll let ya know how it turns out!
