Some of you old fogies may remember a little show from last century by the simple title: "Seinfeld." When it was new, Hubby-Wan & I watched it every Thursday night at 9pm, just after a brand new show called "Friends."
...We hope you're going somewhere with this dear Oboe-Wan...
I am I am, hang in there.
There was an episode where George Costanza plays Trivia Pursuit with the bubble boy (made even funnier by the fact that the bubble boy had a hilariously sarcastic & smart-alec voice). To the infamous question "who invaded Sicily" the Bubble Boy answers "The Moors" but unfortunately for him the answer printed on the card was "The Moops." George would not concede the BB victory because of this typographical error. The Bubble Boy nearly blows a gasket arguing that he had the correct answer.
In the -Wan household we play Star Wars Trivial Pursuit with the "Rule of Moops" meaning even if you technically answered the question correct, you must give the
exact answer listed on the card. For example, if you answer "Princess Leia" but the card says "Leia Organa" you would be wrong. If we don't play with this rule, the SWTP games go too quickly for our tastes.
In recent months, we have introduced Padawan-Wan to SWTP. He loves it! Obviously, we play the DVD edition with him, the visual cues giving him an edge. And he's been obsessed with playing this game every night for the last 3 nights. I don't mind, I reign supreme in this household as Queen of SWTP. In fact, Hubby-Wan only allows me to answer one question at a time, he can have 3 questions & the padawan can go until he gets a question wrong. Call it SWTP handicapping or whatever, but I'll take those odds. I usually win 9 out of 10 starts.
As I mentioned, Padawan-Wan has been wanting to play with us the last 3 nights so we have indulged him. And who has won all 3 nights? I'll give you 3 guesses.
.....no.....
.....sorry....no......
YES! Padawan-Wan! We've even resorted to
not helping him by giving extra clues & he still has been answering most of his questions correctly. I believe the little gremlins inside the DVD player are selecting the easiest questions for him (Hubby-Wan & I only ask each other questions from the cards so we can reserve all the DVD questions for the padawan) while the house elves mess around with the set of cards to be sure Hubby-Wan & I get asked the most obscure questions in the box. This game is rigged, I tells ya! RIGGED!!
So where do Moops fit in to all this? Well, in order to preserve some self-respect, we have lifted the Moops rule for the Padawan. We figure... he's 5.... cut the kid some slack, right? We should have played with Moops tonight because the Padawan had a couple great answers! I'll never be able to hear these names again without chucking to myself.
Correct Answer: Bail Organa
Moops a la Padawan-Wan: Bill Organa
(name change thanks to the senator protection program)
Correct Answer: Sio Bibble
Moops a la Padawan-Wan: Sly Bubble
(I still can't believe he got this one!)
Correct Answer: Zam Wessel
Moops a la Padawan-Wan: Sam Westley
(big LOTR fan-kid & recent Princess Bride recruit)
Correct Answer: Jango Fett
Moops a la Padawan-Wan: Jango Fat
(I chalk this one up to his east coast dialect, though neither Hubby-Wan with his New England lilt nor I with my horrid Great Lakes region accent mispronounce our "E"'s that badly!!)
Perhaps I should spell it Jango Phat?
Lastly, I'm so exceptionally curious... there are people who reinact scenes from the movies in the DVD edition. How many of you out there are in the DVD game? Please! Come forward! Name the disk, the game & the category your question is in (if that's possible), but most importantly, please tell me how you got to be in the game!!
