Exploding Star Wars Toys Series: Part 9
Today there was a tragedy in our house: 2 Insider magazines were mutilated in a horrendous water accident.

My fellow Star Wars fans, let us bow our heads for moment of silence for issues #90 & #92 who suddenly found themselves covered in approximately 12 oz. of water this morning. Now quietly resting on my bed, we are hoping for a good outcome. For now, they just need time to rest. Yes, rest.

At approximately 8:42am PST Padawan-Wan knocked over his glass of water with his breakfast. The Insider Magazines had been close at hand (he was reading them as if there were the morning paper) and quickly absorbed most of the water. I was at first relieved that the water did not damage my table, but when I discovered the Insiders had fallen victim my heart sank. "NO!!!"

No, I did not throw out the Insiders, that would be crazy. I also did not bury them as the ground here is too hard to cut through with a shovel (especially if you're wimpy old me). I laid them down on the bathroom counter hoping to dry them off. What ended up happening was the ink from the covers bled off on to the white countertop leaving weird smudgy imprints all over the counter. Like some sort of Silly-Putty-Insider-Countertop-Chemical-Reaction. Of course, I didn't discover this atomic fusion for a couple hours - so when I lifted the Insiders up off the counter, the ink remained behind along with small pieces of the cover.

So again, I say...

But, alls well that ends well. The Insiders dried out. The countertop eventually was cleaned. Although the covers are bit more stiff & crinkly than normal, the Insiders have pulled through and will survive to see another disaster - inevitable in a house with a 5-year-old.

With as much dignity as she could muster, Oboe-Wan gathered up the sad remains of her saturated Insiders. Later that night, alone in the backyard, she buried them next to the garage. Now I could never be sure, but I thought that I heard the sound of "Taps" being played. Gently.
