Happy Belated Birthday!
Happy 30th Birthday, Star Wars!

In 1977 two of the coolest people I know were born: my brother & my best friend. 30 years.... wow.... time flies doesn't it? SW was released the weekend after my birthday on May 25. I had just turned 3 and I know I've told this story many times in other blogs, many of the adults in my family used "me" as the excuse to go see this kid's movie. I was "dragged" to the theater & drive-in a total of 4 times, and obviously I didn't mind. Star Wars invaded my life in a good way - and being so little I can hardly remember life without SW. Scratch that, I do not remember life without SW.

In 1998 I was working as a music teacher in a middle school. Nope, I do not have a teaching degree - I was hired because the school could not find a suitable candidate & me being friends with the fine arts administrator she asked if I would step in & be a sub for a year. Of course I would!

Although I hated this job, the best part was I got to work alongside one of my very very good friends. Someone who was getting me all psyched up for the release of TPM that coming May 1999. Someone who was lending me his Insider Magazines. I would read those things cover to cover during my prep periods & lunch breaks. Lesson planning? What was that? Didn't the school district know that there was a new SW movie coming out?

Then there was a little rivalry between us: who was the bigger Star Was Fan (*cough*cough*geek*cough*) and it was hard to say. Our spouses (speeses?) had plenty of laughs at our expense even though they too were big fans, but we didn't care. The first SW movie in 16 years was about to happen! We reported to each other each morning what trailers we had seen on t.v. or even online! These things took hours to download on dial-up, but we didn't have much choice back then. I know my modem motivator needed some work because on my first 2 attempts the darn thing cut off before the trailer was completely downloaded.

I also distinctly remember the posters including this one in honor of the 20th anniversary in 1997.

So now, here I am 10 years, 1 kid, 3 movies & a whole lotta blogging later. It's hard to believe that a movie can change effect your life, but they really do, don't they? They teach us something and the cool thing is I can sit & watch a movie right next to you & take away something completely different. It's very cool.

I admit, I don't watch SW every day... Hubby-Wan & I don't sit around & discuss it until all hours of the morning... when I met people from sw.com we didn't sit around & talk about SW... it's just there. Permeating my odd sense of humor - there's a SW quote for just about every situation, isn't there? And man it can be funny to throw in a good syntactically destroyed sentence a la Yoda even if it isn't a direct SW quote.

Because of SW I have met so many cool people I may never have met otherwise. And for that I'm thankful.

Now, onto the 30th anniversary & C4 is over & I didn't get to partake in one second of it, but I'll live.

One thing I did discover on Friday, May 25, 2007 while watching ANH in honor of the anniversary was a little placement of the number "525".... How in the world has this not been pointed out here?? In ANH Luke has just found R2 D2 wandering the Jundland Wastes & 3PO tells him that there are several creatures approaching. Luke pulls out the old binoculars & says "let's have a look!" He focuses his binoculars on a couple of banthas and there it is "525" right there on the distance meter at the bottom of the screen! How cool is that??

Coincidence? I think not.

Happy 30th Star Wars!
