2 letters + 2 numbers = one scary robot.
From the time I was a kid, seeing IG-88 standing in the line-up of bounty hunters in ESB has scared me to death. Absolutely frightened the dickens out of me. Why? As a little kid, I'm guessing it's because it's a robot that doesn't have any sort of "human" features. Even little R2-D2 has a "face" but IG-88 is all distorted & mechanical looking.
My fear of this bounty hunter has not lessened over the years. I guess I have the video game "Shadows of the Empire" to thank for that. There's a level where you have to fight IG-88 in the junk yard. He's so difficult to kill when you're trying harder to run away from him than actually attack him. And that sound he makes as he nears you? Bone chilling. My spinal cord actually quivers during this level. Most times, I would just get myself to that point in the game and if my hubby wasn't hanging around close by to fight him for me, I'd quit the game. That'd be it. That's how scary IG-88 is to me.
Now with the LEGO game, you can purchase IG-88 in the cantina. While my son & I were scrolling through the characters, he noticed IG-88 as one he could afford to buy. Faced now with a moral dilemma - do I pretend he really doesn't have enough studs to buy IG-88 or do I let him buy it? I let him buy it and thankfully the little LEGO IG-88 is actually kind of cute. Looks a little bit like a praying mantis. Now that's something I can deal with.
IG-88 is the reason that when I hit the age of 50 I will be purchasing
Old Glory Robot Insurance. And I hope you will consider it too. I'd hate to find out my sw.com friends have all been snubbed out by this nightmare robot.
