 | Congrats, John Knoll, Hal Hickel, Charles Gibson and Allen Hall |
Finally, a long overdue Oscar win to these amazing VFX artists. While not to lessen acknowledgment of Mr. Gibson and Mr. Hall's contributions, I especially want to extend congrats to John and Hal, guys I've met and had the lucky opportunity to talk to, work beside, and see from time to time. John is a genius, able to see solutions where other see limits, and Hal has an amazing eye for performance and vitality expressed by digital characters.
There's always a thrill in just seeing someone you know on TV; but this is the Oscars, and the work on Pirates II is truly astounding and deserving. Congrats!

Congrats to all the ILMers! Well-deserved! And Mr. Lucas was hilarious at the end, too!

PS -- off topic, but I loved the podcast preview! You have a terrific radio voice, very NPRish.

I was very pleased to see the ILM boys get their golden rods
George, Steve and Francis rocked at the end - how cool was that?

Long, long, long, even longer overdue for ILM. I could get into a whole rant about ILM's deserving Oscars from '99 to the present but finally, they broke through again.
The best visual effects company and people on the planet are back on top....

Peter Jackson didn't release a movie this past year, so the VFX Oscar goes to ILM by default.

All this Oscar buzz ended up getting me over to Hal Hickel's page on Wikipedia, where, thanks to your recent entry on the proper Lucas-related company names, I managed to spot a reference to "Industrial Light and Magic" when we all now know it should be "Industrial Light & Magic."
As I looked around some more, I realized the problem popped up all over the place! But fear not, I have just fixed the seven other incorrect references I saw.
I'm sure I didn't catch nearly all of them, but it's a start.

Hi Pablo,
Might I ask a favor?
I am developing a feature length documentary based on the Star Wars community, and would like to discuss it a little with you (I realize you are a busy fellow, but this wouldn't take long).
Please email me at neil@StudioMoraine.com as I would be delighted to send you a brief outline and synopsis of the documentary - I appreciate your time!
