4/23/07
4 a.m. -- Alarm goes off.
4:12 a.m. -- The-little-alarm-that-could manages to rouse me out of bed.
4:13 a.m. -- Hit the showers.
4:25 a.m. -- Last minute packing. After unable to decide which graphic novel to take for the plane ride out, I pack all three
Civil War (Marvel),
Ex Machina: Smoke (Wildstorm) and
We3 (Vertigo)
4:50 a.m. -- Supershuttle comes and picks me up.
5:40 a.m. -- Walk up to United terminal for "easy check-in" with plenty of time to spare.
5:41 a.m. -- Find out my 7 am flight has been cancelled. Kiosk unhelpfully offers me a 2:50 pm flight instead. Press a few more options, and the 6:10 flight comes up. Boarding starts at... 5:45?
5:45 a.m. -- Through airport security. Call my boss who is scheduled to be on the now cancelled flight to advise him to change his plans. Get his voice mail.
7:20 a.m. -- Finish
Civil War on the flight out. Review presentation documents for meeting.
8:30 a.m. -- Check into hotel. Continue to rview presentation materials.
10:30 a.m. -- Take cab to Paramount Studios. Admire the massive
Transformers standee in their main lobby.
11:00 a.m. - 3 p.m. -- Sit in on [deleted] meeting with [deleted] and representatives from Paramount's [deleted] team and Lucasfilm's [deleted] team to discuss
Indiana Jones 4. Found out about [deleted], [deleted], [deleted] and the part about [deleted] being not true.
3:30 p.m. -- back to the hotel. Prep equipment for the screening
5:30 p.m. -- Head out to Wilshire Blvd. to Samuel Goldwyn Theater for Great To Be Nominated screening
6:00 p.m. -- Set up recorder in the theater's multi-box for post-screening discussion panel.
6:30 p.m. -- pre-show cocktails, though I'm busy playing reporter with the LFL Doc Team shooting. I interview Gary Kurtz, Paul Hirsch, Richard Edlund, Mark Hamill, Phil Tippett, Ben Burtt, and Duwayne Dunham for future content. I see Daniel Logan looking sharp.
7:30 p.m. -- Episode IV screening starts. I sit next to an 87-year old movie lover celebrating her birthday.
approx 10:00 p.m. -- Panel discussion starts. I head back to the multi-box to start reocrding.
11:30 p.m. -- Panel lets out. Head back to the hotel. Realize that I have a heck of a lot of transcribing to do.
12:00 a.m. -- Dinner. Last meal from room service before they close for the night.
12:15 a.m. -- Start transcribing.
2:30 a.m. -- Start fading. Transcript not quite done yet. Figure I should at least get a few hours of sleep tonight.
3:00 a.m. -- Head to bed.
6:00 a.m. -- Up the next day to catch my flight back. Thankfully, no cancellations.
The end result? Well, it was productive. The first thing out of the gate is the full transcription of the evening which can be
found here, but there's additional stuff to roll out later down the line.
Oh, and I finished all three graphic novels, so I got that done too.
