Excellence in Journalism, Part III
When I studied Journalism in college, our instructor would fail an assignment if you spelled a proper name incorrectly. He also wasn't too keen on making up names, either. I wonder what he would have to say about this story that appeared at ic Wales.

I've bolded the stuff I suspect he would have circled in red...

Minister's Star Wars' mission to US Sep 8 2005

David Williamson, Western Mail

ANDREW DAVIES, Minister for Economic Development and Transport, has visited the $370m George Lucas Film Studios in San Francisco.

The studios, named after the creator of the Star Wars movies, opened last month and is seen one of the world's most advanced movie-making complexes outside Hollywood.

Mr Davies used the meeting with senior executives from the Lucas Corporation to discuss collaborations with the so-called Valleywood film complex due to be built in Bridgend.

Like its San Francisco counterpart, the Welsh project - which is spearheaded by Gandhi director Lord Richard Attenborough - is designed to exploit digital filmmaking technology.

The visit was the first undertaken by any Government representative, and included a meeting between Mr Davies and Jim Ward, president of Lucas Studios.

The minister said, "Wales has a wealth of creative talent, including expertise in a wide range of digital media. This visit created an excellent opportunity to forge links between one of the most powerful and sophisticated companies in the entertainment business and the sector in Wales. Together with our innovative Creative Industries Strategy, our expertise in digital animation and the recent Dragon Studios investment, Wales is well placed to become a major player in this dynamic, knowledge and technology-driven sector.

"The San Francisco experience clearly shows that Wales can become a magnet for creative talent and innovative companies with considerable spin-out benefits for the wider economy."

Dennis Conaghan, director of the San Francisco Economic Development Commission met with the Minister during the visit to the studios.

He said, "The launch of the San Francisco Digital Arts and Media Strategy and the investment in the George Lucas Studios is attracting a high number of sector-related companies to San Francisco. I look forward to examining ways of closer collaboration with companies in Wales to build on our experience and develop mutually beneficial opportunities between San Francisco and Wales."
