My Favorite Fan Site
Ah, fan sites. The keepers of distinct and multi-hued flames. I've always found that the better fan sites are the ones that focus on one particular thing, because the passion is more clearly focused.

But there's one out there that tries to do a lot and succeeds spectacularly. I'm not talking about Star Wars. My favorite fan site is this one.

Despite the fact that the property has been dormant for about 15 years, this site manages to update several times a week. It has really interesting "classic" content about the making of the films, as well as updates as to what the major players are doing these days.

Before Lord of the Rings, before Matrix, THIS was the *other* trilogy for me (right behind SW and Indy of course). I actually met Christopher Lloyd once in Indianapolis while I was in high school (around 1990). He was performing in a play downtown and one night came into the grocery store where I had worked. My buddy and I had our backs turned to each other, stocking the shelves and we were talking about A Fish Called Wanda (a hilarious flick) and Jamie Lee Curtis. Then all of a sudden a voice in the aisle from behind us both says, "Jamie Lee? She IS hot!"
We both turned around and there was Doc Brown and he walked away with his box of cereal.

Here here. Star Wars represents my very young childhood. Because I didn't come to truly appreciate the magic of Indy until I was older, that falls more into my teen years. But right in between is Back to the Future. Those are films I can obsess over (in an odd way, even moreso than Star Wars just because its finite length makes it easier to zoom in on the details). I got into those movies just as I was starting to appreciate the craft of filmmaking, so they work not only as entertainment, but as sterling technical examples of what a director -- and especially an editor -- are capable of.

That site has always been great. I'm almost a big BTTF fan as I am a SW one. :D

Hey Pabs, do you also happen to have a favourite starwars fansite? That would be interesting to see. And don't worry, I won't desert this one for any site, no matter how good... ;)

Thanks! Loved BTTF! Time travel...Lloyd...Fox!

In 1994 I served Mr. Lloyd and his wife, Jane, at a restaurant I was working at in Montecito, where he now lives. They had a great time.

I'm going through my books, there's his credit card. I was a little ticked, unnecessary return for him.

Next morning at work I'm doing paperwork, setting up dinner & taking calls - one of which is from Mr. Lloyd asking if he'd left his card. He came by to pick it up, we chatted briefly &
he explained he'd been too full to think. ;) I whispered, "happens all the time."

A handshake, a wink, and a 'thank you' for the meal and safekeeping. Then he headed out for art and rollerblading...I know, a little hard to imagine.

While in college I was in the minority of my friends who thought BTTF 2 was actually better than 3 (which brings to mind the Star Wars Trilogy in the regard).

Also for you kids out there, BTTF 2 (with a great cliffhanger ending) and 3 were filmed back to back leaving fans only six months to wait in between sequels for closure.
Boo yeah! Take that Matrix! (just kidding, I love you too Keanu.)

A handshake, a wink, and a 'thank you' for the meal and safekeeping. Then he headed out for art and rollerblading...I know, a little hard to imagine.

Christopher Lloyd as Jim Ignatowski heading out for art and rollerblading... not hard to imagine at all :)

The great thing about the 80's was the we had The Flannelled One and Spielberg at their prolific best, either directing or producing classics. I mean from Jaws in 75, Star Wars and CEŁK in 77, (I'm saying 1941 in 79 because I LOVE it - completely un-PC, wouldn't get away with it now but Belushi was a god so what the heck!), ESB in 80, Raiders, Poltergeist, ET, Jedi, Gremlins, TofD, BTTF...no need to go on, and I've missed out plenty.

BTTF was just such a GOOD film, so clever and well thought out, always tipping a wink at the audience but never over-egging the jokes. And I agree, I thought BTTF2 was a damn clever film, breaking normal movie conventions. And 3 was just a lot of fun.
We might never get another BTTF (I understand MJF isn't too well), but like after Jedi at least we had an animated series for a while...
Oh, and by the way, the best Star Wars fan site is mine :-p
