Tales of the Big Green Bunny: Behind the Scenes of Gamer #4 -- And the Rest
Part IV and final in a blog series

p. 46 - One fun thing was explaining that Amaiza and Jaxxon actually worked out of Nar Shaddaa, which means that Nar Shaddaa's first appearance in comics form was actually way back in Star Wars #16, in the Marvel Run.

p. 47 - Amaiza's real name has a bizarre origin. The aforementioned Mr. Harper had fashioned a rather bizarre pidgin language as a joke with a friend years ago, which would result in twisted English. There were no real set rules behind the translations, it was something more instinctual than technical, more art than science. In this language, "Jodelle Foxtrain" was, believe it or not, "Jody Foster." So, as a gag, I snuck in Foxtrain as Amaiza's surname, knowing that it would eventually work its way through approvals.

Likewise, "Quatrain Pudundruh" somehow translates into "quarter pounder."

The Black Hole gang and the incident at Delphon are from Amaiza's backstory provided in the comic.

p. 47-48 - Don Wan Kihotay's backstory is actually a repurposing of another character I had helped develop years earlier as a fan -- nothing official. He was actually the fifth "Rookie" in the Rookies storyline. His name was originally Jim Korrin, and he was based on the Quixotic Jedi template from WEG's original rulebook. The basic details were there -- scholar at Obroa-skai, Ithorian boss, kinda loopy. It made a natural background for Don Wan Kihotay. Unfortunately, what that means is that since I used up Jim Korrin's background for this Gamer article, he won't be appearing in Rookies.

p. 48 - The only other sneaky reference in this article is the Spiner homeworld, Yablon, which is a veiled reference to Cliff Yablonski, crank correspondent on somethingawful.com, a site I won't directly link to because, despite my enjoyment of it, it is definitely not all ages appropriate.

p. 50 - Sevis Vaa and the Sith alchemy are all new, but of course inspired by the Tales of the Jedi series, which showed ancient Sith Lords creating horrible abominations. It helped explain what the behemoth from below was, other than a deux in machina critter that seems to come out of nowhere. It seems to make sense to me -- why else would the creature go so nuts over a lightsaber?

Ah, I've been waiting for this blog and you didn't disappoint. All I can say is that I'm envious of you (and Abel, Dan, and Leland) for fitting all of this together in your head and keeping it all straight for the fans! And thanks for mentioning Don Wan Kihotay. I think he's kind of a neat character (okay, I'm pretty much a fan of all Star-Hopper lore) and it's nice to see him recognized.

And who's to say you can't put him ANYWHERE in Rookies? ;)
