The Geek Shall Inheret, Revisited
A few months back, I wrote about how peculiar it was that King Constantine I had a shorter wikipedia entry than Hordak from He-Man. My point was that perhaps Wikipedia should re-examine its priorities.

Well, this week somethingawful.com brought up the point again much more effectively and concisely when they identified the following as their Awful link of the day.

Cribbed from their site without permission.

Awful Link of the Day:
Wikipedia - Knuckles the Echidna
Allow me to provide a brief list of Wikipedia articles that are shorter than the one about Knuckles the Echidna:

Echidnas
The Internet
The Internal Combustion Engine
William Shakespeare
Western Culture

There you have it -- the Internet in a nutshell. Knuckles the Echidna merits more depth than the sum of Western Culture. ;)

Some rather humorous epiphanies in the Wiki's discussion page too, including:

This is a problem that many topics have that are potential nerd baits (e.g. Star Trek, Final Fantasy, obscure cartoons, etc.), some people just infodump their entire anal-retentive knowledge there. That would be fine in, say, a "Sonic Wiki". But in Wikipedia it's problematic, because it makes the article nearly unreadable for anybody who is not into Sonic and comes here for short and concise info on the subject. (At least the most outlandish pieces of info should be linked to, but not included in the main article.) --Agitpop 09:05, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

This reminds me of a "Mallard Fillmore" strip I saw in my local newspaper around the time of the AOTC release. I may not totally agree with the politics of that particular strip or its creator, but it can quite hilarious some of the time.

In the strip Mallard Fillmore, the duck journalist, asks a group of college students what the capital of Canada is*. None of them know, but they all answered "Jango Fett" to the question "who is Boba Fett's father?"

*Ottowa, duh!

Until every geek sub-culture gets it's own wiki, this will be the way it is unless the Wikipedia administrators spend 24-7 editing things. And personally I have no problem with it. I love surfing through the geek stuff on Wikipedia. Just today I spent about 45 minutes looking at various DC comics entries. I really haven't read them in about 20 years, but Wikipedia allowed me to see what's up in a far easier way than any other resource out there. There are other places to get Shakespeare info. There aren't as many places to find out what Green Arrow has been up to since 1986.

Hi ya Pabawan!

heheh, that's ironic.

I tried to send you an email through the contact Blogger button but it didn't work. I'd been in communications with Paul Ens about some projects and he said to stay in touch with you. So I'm trying to get in touch through the blogs...
