Here's a thing that I've thought about... mostly for fun, but still. There's probably no doubt that the textual content, humorous as it is, of
Star Wars: Galactic Phrasebook and Travel Guide is canonical, Sergio Aragones' illustrations involving a spaced out spacer probably arent, and I guess the same goes for Warren Fu's front cover illustration.
But what if Aragones' spacer was to become canonical? What if all the illustrations were integrated into one backstory? I think that would be hilarious and totally cool at the same time. I mean what an adventure that would be. The spacer would experience everything from the perils of space travel over the "puke"ils of dining with Hutts and Gungans and almost endning up as Ewok dinner to chasing Jawas and retrieving his space helmet from dangerous Tuskens.
Who would he be? Well, I imagine him being a slightly dimwitted and spoiled member of the Baobab family, perhaps a nephew caled Es'Ganaro Baobab or something, who has decided to travel the galaxy and test out uncle Ebenn's travel guide firts hand. He has probably just graduaded from whatever institution he took his degree at, just barely passing it. While the travel guide is good enough, this guy is just so stupid that he can't even use the travel guide and phrasebook properly and hence constantly gets into trouble. Maybe he's unwillingly end up in a central role in some important galactic affair or something, and he might have repeated run-ins with Warren Fu's holidaying Aleen family. Well, that's just how I imagine it.
But I think it would be totally cool if the spacer became a canonical integrated part of the
Star Wars continuity. I, for one, would certainly applaud it if a
Star Wars writer sat down and came up with a canonical backstory for this spacer-guy. I mean, on the basis of the actual illustrations, it would end up as being an action-packed adventure of epic proportions., and probably a very humorous one too. And if Max the demented largomorph can become canonical so can this guy.
