Last night, while I was watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, I thought, "Why has there never been a SW musical?" I mean, Star Wars is good. Musicals are good. So if you add the two together it would AMAZING!
I thought of a little sequence of events for the musical version of A New Hope:
* After the opening sequence, we zoom in onto Luke Skywalker twirling happily on his homestead. Can anyone say "The dunes are alive with the sound of music!"
*Then at the Mos Eisley Cantina, we first meet Han. He introduces himself to Obi Wan and Luke with a little number: "When you're a Corellian smuggler, you're a Corellian smuggler all the way From your first cigarette to your last dyin' day! "
*When the group is safely on the Millenium Falcon, Han doesn't want Luke to get too full of himself. "Boy, boy, crazy boy, Get cool, boy! Got a rocket in your pocket, Keep coolly cool, boy!"
*Also while on the Falcon, Obi-Wan begins to tutor Luke in the ways of the Force. He figures that Luke will better absorb his lessons if they are taught in song! "Let's start at the very beginning! A very good place to start! When you read you begin with A-B-C when you use the Force you begin with do-re-mi! " Of course, this didn't quite make sense so Luke just ignored it.
*Once they reached the Death Star and got to Leia, she sang her own introduction song :
Loverly!
*Finally! Obi-Wan and Vader have their duel!! But before they can do that, Vader sings, " I feel pretty! Oh so pretty! I feel pretty and witty and briiiiight!! And I pity any Sith who isn't me tonight!!"
*Obi-Wan is killed! But! Before he goes, he has to say goodbye properly, right? "So long, farewell, auf weidersehn goodnight! I hate to go and leave this pretty sight!"
*And now the Death Star is blown up by our dear Luke Skywalker. We need a good victory song.... " Yub nub, eee chop yub nub, toe meet toe pee chee keene, g'noop dock fling oh ah. Ah yubba yubba yubba!! "
In conclusion, I think I've figured out why Star Wars was never a hit musical. But, we can always dream, right?
