Fantasy to Reality
Something just occured to me that is so rediculous that it might actually happen. Sure it will be thousands of years off, but with genetic engineering being what it is, it is not inconceivable to consider the possibilty...
Someday, Wookiees and Hutts will roam this galaxy. As will Bothans, Mon Calamari, Noghri, and even the species that Yoda belongs to. Because if Star Wars has created this kind of following in only thirty years, imagine what it will be thirty centuries or thirty millennia from now.
What the Greeks and Romans did for modern civilization, Star Wars and other fantastic stories like it will do for future civilizations. In fact, one day, humanity, realizing that it is indeed alone in the galaxy, will create new species of aliens in its very own labs. And what will be the blueprint for this genetic tinkering? Aliens from fiction, including the Star Wars universe. These aliens will strike out on their own, finding habitable planets and moons, and voila! A galactic community.
It won't stop there though. Eventually humanity will figure out a way to genetically enhance itself to reshape the very nature of our biology. Once that happens, Jedi and Sith will be within the realm of fantasy no longer.
We here in this time can only look at a television or movie screen and dream. But our distant descendants will live it. Because today's story is tomorrow's myth.

today's story is tomorrow's myth

There is quite a bit of validity in this simple statement. Wouldn't it be wonderful to be alive at least 100 or 200 years from now just to see how our planet, its inhabitants, our galaxy has evolved? I don't know if Earth ever will see the likes of Wookiees, Bothans, Rodians, etc. walking around, but it sure is an interesting thought.

I hope it never comes to that. Who told you were we "alone in the galaxy"?

it seems more likely though that we will expand into a world or universe more of that in the Dune series by frank Herbert than something like star wars?:| ?:|

But what if the aliens we create enslave us! Just like what my aliens in my script is trying to do!

I think there is other life(which is ONE of the reasons I love Star Wars so much)out there.

Japanese Fett, your writing a script, cool.

Most advancements come from fiction (a ship that travels underwater? stop kidding! :)). I'll go ahead and step into taboo land here; I once saw a Star Trek episode (don't strike me down, please!!!!) where an alien race found the galaxy to itself, so they engineered humans, Klingons, and what ever else since I'm not a big Trek fan (I don't even know if I spelled Klingon correct!). We shall see. Nice blog!

*Deep sigh* Every Star Wars fans' dream...REAL Star Wars....

Well, I'm sure there're plenty of unique, non-SW aliens out there in our galaxy, or others. The Force is something that's just not gonna happen (sorry).

The technology is a different matter completely. Possibly possible. Magnetic trains already exist (to a degree). But hyperspace? Traveling dozens, even hundreds of times faster than the speed of light? Um...good luck with that....
