 | In Progress: The case for the Star Wars prequels. |
I am working on an affirmative discussion to demonstrate the personal inspiration and artistic greatness that are to be found by all people in two of George Lucas' greatest accomplishments: Episodes I and II of Star Wars. Many have found themselves not up to the task of grasping these films beyond their surface. One hears complaints that they have "no plot" or that you can't "love the characters." The truth of the matter of course, is that such statements say more about the viewer than the movies themselves. While I may not have a scholarly consensus backing me, I nevertheless forge ahead with the conviction that if I can make my arguments well that you will understand why the Star Wars movies should be ranked among the greatest movies of the last century and should also be ranked as one of the few pearls from our era that will stand the test of time as Shakespeare, Chaucer, and Homer have done.
