Entry # 6: Batman: Light vs. Dark
He can't fly or spin a web, he can't predict the future or change the past, he can't see into the minds of others or read their thoughts, he doesn't have the ability to talk to animals or heal himself at will, he doesn't have heat vision or the ability to control the elements, his bones can be broken and he can bleed, he has to eat and sleep in order to survive, he can't breath underwater or change his form, in fact, he has no physical or mental abilities that we ourselves could not attain. And yet, Batman continues to sit atop my list as the greatest superhero ever. This blog however is not meant to sing the praises of Batman, but rather to examine where he might fit in the galaxy far, far away.

I have no doubt that Batman would have Force potential. He can do some amazing things without it, so imagine what he could do with an ally such as the Force. Whether or not he would be a Jedi, is where my thoughts lye. For all intents and purposes, Batman is a good guy, but the title "Dark Knight" suggests something completely different in Star Wars.

The Jedi would use the term Dark Knight to refer to one who has left the Order and dabbles in the dark side of the Force. Assuming that Batman would have the ability to touch the Force, I believe that he would be a Dark Jedi. His whole drive for justice is based on revenge for his parent's deaths. Revenge is not a Jedi ideal. In fact, I think Batman and Quinlan Vos have a lot in common.

Let's take a look at what might have been...

Broos Way-ne was born on Coruscant. Born into wealth, Broos had been discovered by Jedi Master Lucius Foks as having great Force potential and was taken to the Jedi Temple for training. Broos excelled in physical combat and in his Lightsaber training. Up until this time he was chosen as a Padawan learner by Master Foks, Broos had maintained loose ties to his parents. While on a rendezvous with his parents, a bounty hunter killed Broos' mother and father. Broos put up a fight, but was no match for the bounty hunter. Master Foks had learned of the tragedy over the Holonet news feeds and was very concerned for his new Padawan, afraid that his parent's murder may lead young Broos down a path of darkness. Throughout his training, Broos was defiant and showed a passion for revenge. He felt it was his job to keep such tragedies form happening to others, and often defied his Master's orders in a hunt for Justice. Upon his Knighthood, Broos renounced his name, as was henceforth referred to as the Dark Knight. He eventually took a Padawan of his own, Ra-bin. Ra-bin had been very close to the Dark Knight, yet did not always agree with her Master's decisions or his use of Dark side powers. Once Ra-bin was knighted, the Dark Knight became a renegade Jedi, pursuing justice in the galaxy the way he saw fit. Upon the outbreak of the Clone Wars, the Dark Knight found himself stranded in the Go-Tham System. The Dark Knight crushed the tyrannical rule of Go-Tham's Prince Napier, and soon learned that Go-Tham City was a hot bed of Separatist activity. He fought many battles against Separatist sympathizers such as the cunning Cobble Pott, the Kathar woman Sa Leen-a, the cold hearted Dr. Feese, the puzzling E-nig Ma, the half man - half droid known as 2-FAZ, the maniacal scientist Dr. Iislee, and the brute know simply as Bayne. His Clone Wars exploits made the Dark Knight a hero to the people of the Go-Tham System, but when word got back to Jedi Council of his questionable tactics, The Dark Knight was officially expelled form the Order. The Dark Knight continued to fight the Separatists on Go-Tham using his knowledge of the dark side. At wars end, the Dark Knight escaped Order 66 due to the fact that he was not assigned a battalion of Clone Troopers. His fate has yet to be revealed.

This is something I have pondered for quite sometime. I just thought it might be a nice change of pace from the standard blog entries. You comments are always welcome!

May the Force be with you!
