The full moon and other joys of working in a hospital
A full moon means all sorts of fun things happen when you work in a hospital. Really, a full moon is a sign to call into work because it's not going to be a good day. I work in the lab, so I don't have any patient contact, but sometimes dealing with the doctors, nurses, and HUCs is even worse than dealing with a beligerant patient. If it's wet and comes out of your body, I know how to analyze it. I was in hematology tonight, so it wasn't that bad, I mean, what could really top the 4 post-vasectomy samples that we had last week (yes, you did read that right)? Ok, so there were 2 CSF cell counts but one had no cells, the other one, well, never go to the ER and complain about a headache because some resident will decide that he needs to practice a spinal tap and he'll use the old corkscrew method and it's just not pretty. Oh yeah, and there was a phone call with a question on fecal reducing substances, that was fun. Trust me on this one, just never get sick.

Don't get me wrong, I like working in the lab, where else can you say "Have you looked at your genitals yet?" and have people not take it the wrong way. (That's genital cultures to you dirty minded sick freaks that I know are reading this :p) And where else can you take bets on what someone's blood alcohol level will be or what drugs they'll have in their system?

Even though I vent about it, I love my job. It's fun and rewarding. And remember, be nice to me, I'll be doing your drug tests one day.
