A Sequel Trilogy yet to come?
I'v heard rumours that the making of episodes VII, VIII, IX is being considered. If this is true, I must speak out against it. I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel that the series is complete. It starts with the discovery of Anikan and goes up till his death, which seems like a very suitable ending to the series in my opinion. Certainly Luke's story continues but that's been done in novels. The Emperor has been destroyed; the New Republic will be organized. There is so much closer in Episode VI that it would be difficult to try to continue it.
I just so strongly feel that another three movies would be a mistake. It's hard to express exactly how I feel about. I hope there are others of you out there that understand what I mean.
If the company is quite certain that they want to make another three at some point, there are only a few ways that I could see this working. First and most importantly, they cannot in any way be based on the novels. I don't have anything in particular against the novels, I myself find them entertaining but they're fiction about fiction (if that makes any sense). I suppose, in other words, only George Lucas can write these movies or else they just won't be the same.
Also, if they are indeed continuing the story of Luke, Leia, and Han, they must have the same actors. It would be unthinkable if some one other than Carrie Fisher played Princess Leia! However, if they had the same actors, they would have to set the sequels a number of years after Episode VI, which would mean that the movies would miss out on the aftermath of the emperor's death. This is one scenario that is possible.
Another scenario would be if it did not involve Luke and Leia, and all those others at all. If it told the story of the aftermath of the Emperor's Death from someone else's point of view, but I do not really see that working.
Or a third scenario would be if they made animated feature lengths sort of like their doing with the Clone Wars. They could still use the actors from the original trilogy but just for their voices.
Even if one of these scenarios was incorporated, a sequel trilogy could be hard to pull off, especially considering that the prequel was a little shaky. So all in all, I just don't see how they could successfully make another three movies.
