O.K. I'm starting this blog series to tell you all what SW stuff I have acquired. They will be dated so we can keep track. It will be like the
"Bragging Rights" Thread but a lot more story telling...O.K. rambling.
So yesterday my wife had to go to our friend Kimmy Dame's house to help her get ready for some "girlie" party (bakeware, jewelry - you know "girlie" stuff). I dropped her off at 10:30. My wife asked me to pick her up at 4:00. That gave me 5 1/2 hours to do some serious SW hunting.
Earlier in the week a guy I work with told me about an antique store he and his wife frequent. He told me they had some sort of vintage Vader cardboard display piece that was $49.95. I thought it might be worth checking out so asked him where the store was located. I went to lunch and told my wife about it. She said "And you're going there when?"(for those that don't know me my wife rules and I love her a lot!). When I came back from lunch Greg had called the store to see if they still had it and they did. I'll come back to this in a bit. This is just where the journey began...
So my day was filled with 1 Toys-R-Us(TRU from now on), 2 Wal-Marts, 4 Targets and the above mentioned Antique store.
At the TRU I picked up the SAGA06 Podracers figures and 7 Titaniums - the Battle Damaged Slave 1, the Battlestar Gallactica Classic Colonial Viper(for kid-time memories), Amidala's Star Skiff, AT-ST(Endor), Obi-Wan's AOTC Starfighter with Hyperspace Ring, Darth Maul's Sith Speeder(Bloodfin), and the uber-sweet Darth Vader Starfighter.
The Targets had nothing for me at all. I did pick up a couple DVDs and a CD - Clerks 2 and Dane Cook's Vicious Circle and the new Incubus album "Light Grenades".
Now the Antique store story - I was wandering around for a while just checking out the place. Then I found the display piece. It is a BK Vader Display for the ROTJ glasses. It was in pretty good shape considering it's 23 years old. It was wedged between a dresser and a wall with a picture on it. I moved the dresser and pulled out the Vader. It folds in 3 places and the top piece was barely hangin' on. It's made of a pretty thick paper board so repairs seemeed easy enough. I decided to pick it up and find a place for it somewhere. Plus it was 20% off so I got it for 40 bucks with tax. The thing is huge really.
Check it out here compared to a pacakged figure.
Then my spree ended at a Wal-Mart where I found the 3 3/4 Darth Vader Starfighter. That just capped the perfect hunting trip. A little story on that - I'm looking in the section for anything. I noticed that on the top shelf they had the new TAC Halfire Droid and ATT. So I knew they had the Vader Starfighter sometime or somewhere. I looked about 10 feet down the top shelf and there it was on top of some Transformers. It appeared to me that someone put it there for later. Well I guess my name was "later" because I got it. I had to use a long shelf peg to pry it off of the precarious stack. It dropped into my arms and I was stoked. I did some more snooping and a guy asked me if he could see it. I looked up and he was wearing the Stormtrooper Crossbones shirt so I let him see it. He was stoked for me too...in my mind. He asked me if they had the others so I told him they did.
Then I hit up BK for a couple Jr. Whoppers and headed on back to get the wife. Showed up at 4:05 and the hunt was officially over!
All in all a great day and a great hunt!!!
