What the heck kind of name is Ral Kleest anyway?
Having been a long time visitor to these parts, I took the plunge last year to get Hyperspace and begin blogging. Oh the wonder! The excitement! You see, I had all these thoughts, thoughts that had been pressing on my brain with all the enthusiasm of a Hutt at an all you can eat amphibian buffet! Now, at last they could be given their free expression! At last, they would have their, revenge??? Or something.

Now, no offense to anyone, but I simply didn't have time for the formalities. My first blog just couldn't be spent with the hello, let me tell you a bit about myself, why I'm here, what SW means to me kind of thing. Oh, no. (Here's where the reader may insert his/her fully appropriate sarcastic comment or perhaps derisive snort. I'll wait...)

So I launched three entries, only a week between each one. And in them, I went straight to the heart of what interested me. A kind of cut to the chase, moving on, can't stop now, type-A personality approach was what I used. And it was great! I loved blogging even more than I thought I would! The interaction, the conversation, great!!!

And since then...the shroud of the dark side has fallen. Well, not really. Life just became, well, busy- a kind of cut to the chase, moving on, can't stop now, type-A kind of busy. But let me tell you, Jabba still wants to belly up to the bar, if you hear what I'm saying. And I'm gonna feed that Hutt, eventually.

But for now I'm still reading and commenting when I can. And sometimes that's even better than fresh frogs in your fishbowl, 'cause there's lots of talented, creative, and sometimes downright hilarious people on this site. And then there's the rest of you, too.
;)

But enough of that. I wrote this blog because introductions are in order. Ral Kleest is my screename, because I just made it up. It's not my real name, my uncle's name, or a condition you get from eating shellfish; it's just a name I created.

Why? I remember being impressed by something George Lucas said one time about wanting the names in the GFFA to not have all kinds of X's and Z's like most sci-fi has. Instead, he wanted familiar, but at the same time, different sounding names. Ral Kleest is my attempt at creating a GFFA persona faithful to that tradition.

Now I'll confess, when I'm in a more geekish mood, I like to imagine who and what Ral is. Is he Jedi, or Sith? Rebel, or Imperial? Or like most of us, is he all, or even none of the above? Hey, any kid will tell you an imaginary friend can be fun, right? So I haven't quite outgrown that, so what?

Bottom line, it's fun to have him around. Like Ben said about his Obi Wan alter ego, "Of course I know him- he's me."

How 'bout you guys? Anybody else want to tell why they chose their screenname? Would you change it if you could? (You can't, but anyway...)

Your comments are always welcome. Right now, I've got to get out there and refill the buffet. You just can't ever seem to satisfy a Hutt...

It's good to know this! I've often wondered how people get their screen names.

Wanna know my story? Kind of silly. I work in the Radiology Dept at our hospital. A long time ago, I worked on the weekends in the ER. Small town ER's are nothing like they are on TV. Sure, we saw the occasional bloody car crash, but that was just once in a while. Anyhow, back to the story, the male staff in the ER used to call me and my co-workers the "Radiology Babes". I thought that was kind of cool, and it's kind of stuck with me all these years. So when the time came to choose a screen name, I wanted to keep with the theme and so GalactiBabe was "born"

Would you change it if you could? (You can't, but anyway...) Funny you should say that...........that wasn't my original creen name. My original one was my real name. I really wanted a snappy screen name, like every one else, so I emailed the powers-that-be and asked if I could change it. They did agree, only because my old screen name revealed my "true self" I kind of like the mystery of being GalacticBabe.

Told you it was silly.

:8}

(can't believe I misspelled my own screen name above!)

Well, some might find it interesting why I refer to myself as Darth Jedi Maul Secura, instead of darth maul 517. Well the darth maul 517 was a name I got went I first discovered this great sight about 3-4 years ago. Now dont ask how the name was my user name, when I wasn't a hyperspace member, because I dont know. Before that it was an incorrect spelling of Aayla Secura. So Darth Jedi Maul Secura is what I wantedto be known as, so I chose it as my blog name. It feels good to finally say this. Thanks for giving me the chance to let this out. ral kleest.

I don't think it's silly, GB! That's just what I'm talking about- the meanings behind our "identities" aren't always "self-evident". Thanks for letting us know a litlle of the "backstory" behind yours.

Darth Jedi Maul Secura, yep, I certainly find that interesting. Are you named after family members? If so, I imagine Thanksgiving dinner at your house is a riot! ;)

As a kid, watching ROTJ, I always thought the Sarlacc Pit (actually, the Pit of Carkoon, if you wanna get technical) was really cool. When I decided to do this blog thing, I thought it would be neat to incorporate Pitt, as in Pittsburgh, where I live, somehow into a screen name. I thought, now where is there a pit in the Saga? Henceforth, you shall be known as....

;)

That's not me--I swear!!!!!

Relax, GB, we believe you!!! (at least I do....)

Well, I had to do it. You'll be glad to know that my Google search put your blog at the top of the list, followed on down a bit by some other matches.

And me too!

Pitt, as in Pittsburgh

Cool! See, I never noticed the extra "t" before! Thanks, Sarlacc!

Thanks, guys!

You'll be glad to know that my Google search put your blog at the top of the list, followed on down a bit by some other matches. Funny, huh? I also Googled my real name. I got nothin'. I'm more exciting in my Star Wars persona than in real life. ;)

Hey, Ral, do you mind if I take what I wrote here about my name origins and make a blog out of it some day? I've never told this story to anyone else (and while I know it's in print here, not a lot of people have seen it--or if they have, they didn't comment)

BTW, you've found a new home on my blog roll.:)
