Trak Nar's Creature Shop Pt. 4: The Kid Gloves are Off!
Yep, I got the base coat of paint on the gloves and tomorrow I'm gonna add the detailing. I painted 'em green overall as I need a primer for the rest of the paint. Duck tape isn't the most forgiving canvas. It can be painted, but it's seriously the biggest pain in the butt to paint if you don't prime it with a coat of spraypaint first.

Gloves, drying after I had applied a coat to the bottoms.

Gloves drying after I had applied a coat to the tops.

I'm gonna be applying several coats over the course of today, then let 'em dry outside in the garage overnight. They'll be fully chip-resistant within a week.

If you plan on using spraypaint for your costume... Make sure to do so outside. It gets stinky! Put down newspaper as well, to protect whatever surface you have your project on. I spraypaint stuff outside in the driveway, as I'm in a well-ventilated area and it dries well. Even then, I gotta watch where the wind's blowing or I'll end up with a facefull of paint. Yuck.

The gloves have a wide range of movement for the materials they were made out of. I can manipulate objects pretty well while wearing those gloves. I haven't tried writing with 'em on, yet. That'll be an adventure and a half. But hey, for this home-brewed Creature Shop and ILM ingenuity on a poor student's budget, methinks things are turning out pretty good.

Perhaps I should consider costume design as a career choice... Just think of what could be done if I had access to professional materials!

You should definitely sign up with one of the Legions closest to you (either the 501st or Rebel Legion). Even if you live out in the middle of nowhere ;)

I think the 501st has a garrison that's in the Pennsylvania area, but other than that... I haven't found any. 'Specially none in the Gettysburg area. Here's hopin' though, that there's one just hiding. I know there are SW geeks out there in Gettysburg, I've seen 'em!
