Old Friends?
Hey, everybody!

Have you ever noticed how much Count Dooku and Saruman (from the Lord of the Rings movies) are alike? Other than the fact that Christopher Lee plays both roles, they really are alike in several ways. The first thing I noticed is that they both use the term "old friend" an awful lot. They also are able to (and are proud to) use merely their mind, and not "those useless gestures" to make things levitate, fly, attack, etc., etc. They both are easily angered, though they are generally cool under pressure. They both are fierce fighters, and they are not happy about losing battles, though they can retreat tactfully and gracefully. They are also ready to merely wound their opponents for personal (or political) gain. They are both smooth-talkers, always trying to excite a lust for power, wealth, or the opponent's own life for joining them. These are a few things I noticed. Did you see any more?

P.S. You'll be seeing a lot of me over the summer. School graduation is on Thursday, May 31st.

Wherever the Force may guide you, God will bless you.

RR out.

Wow, cool thoughts! I liked that "old friend" connection - I hadn't noticed it before. They both have such a regal elegance about them and a presence you can't ignore.

How so? In the picture above Dooku is using his hand for the force lightning, and in the Rings films Saruman uses his staff.

In the first film, when Gandalf was trying to escape from Saruman, Saruman just looked at the doors and they closed. That was one example.

In the Clone Wars novels, Dooku prided himself on his "lack of useless gestures".

Another thing Dooku did...he flew. If you watched the Clone Wars Microseries, Volume I, he flew down to meet and greet Asaaj Ventress.

Very cool! You got me thinking... there's also a thematic similarity in how they both ally themselves with a more powerful evil being, one who has no intention of actually "sharing power."

I know I'm kind of late to this party but now that you brought it up I noticed that they have similar looks in their eyes and stuff. They both have this calculating gaze that they use when they are talking to people; almost as if they are trying to figure out how to make the best use of the being they are speaking with. . .
