Insights on the creation of Yoda & other Star Wars creatures
In 1978, 5 people, (lead by Creature Effects Designer Stuart Freeborn), built Yoda. Three of them, Stuart, his son Graham and myself, were also involved in building the wampa, tauntauns, mynock, ugnaughts and Mos Eisly cantina creatures. Everything written about these events has been compiled by people who were not present at the time, These were mainly writers working from interviews and other info drafted by the publicity department, (and they were rarely around the creature workshop either). For the first time ever, you can access first hand information about the TRUE history behind the creation of these creatures via this blog As an experiment, and for a limited time, I will let fans ask me questions via email. if it's not too overwhelming, I will answer those questions here. Limit your questions to episodes IV & V.

Creating the cantina... continued The creatures were built in a small room at Elstree Studios that was previously known as "The Old Schoolroom". It was pretty crowded by the time we got tables, chairs, materials, paints, glues, foam latex ovens and the six of us in there.

Creating the cantina I was 27 years old in 1976 when I was one of 5 make-up artists in England who assisted Stuart Freeborn in creating the creatures for the main unit shoot of the Mos Eisly cantina. They gave us 10 weeks to create a universe of creatures,
