 | Chipmunk Fever |
As you know from a previous blog, I love and support the new "Alvin and the Chipmunks" movie. There's just something about those furry little guys that brings sunshine to a terminally ill child. I guess it's the fact, for those of you who have seen the movie, that even though their circumstances aren't great the Chipmunks tend to have a pretty good attitude. Like a certain reality TV Show (which I also like) they are "little people" in a big, often overwelhming, world.
Of course, when I like someone or something (Peanuts, Star Wars, Jerry Lewis, Looney Tunes, etc.) it means I start collecting. This is the only place where I felt I could share what I have already collected and not come off as bragging or showing off (I'm really not trying to do that and I've never taken any of your sharing that way). So here goes...
Since I've JUST started collecting, I'll try to list these items in the order I received them...
Alvin and the Chipmunks Jr. Novelization
-Wasn't thrilled that this book contains the word "sucks", since it is intended for readers ages 8-10, and disappointed that the book features more photos of Dave than the Chipmunks. WE WANNA SEE THE CHIPMUNKS!
Alvin and the Chipmunks Soundtrack
-I've made frequent visits to the Billboard website and am happy to see that this disc is #76 in Comprehensive Album Charts and #7 in Soundtracks.
Christmas with the Chipmunks Vol. 1 & 2
-This is a two-disc CD set that comes in a very nice tin and a stocking featuring each of the chipmunks (Alvin, Simon, Theodore).
A Chipmunk Christmas
-A DVD that contains the 1981 "A Chipmunk Christmas" special; where Alvin gives his prize harmonica to a sick child. The other two segments
are episodes of the Saturday Morning Cartoon series than spanned from 1983-1990.
Alvin and the Chipmunks cup
-OK, so the second time I went to see the movie I asked: "Do you have anything Chipmunks I could buy?" The answer was "no". So when I leave the theater I see Chipmunk cups. I went back the next day and told the manager the story. He charged me $4 for the paper cup. Yep. I bought it. Cup features poster art of Dave with Chipmunks.
Still Squeaky After All These Years
-Purcased from amazon.com this CD features seventeen tracks, most as heard on the 1961-1962 television series "The Alvin Show". One customer reviewer gripes that these are not the original recordings, but they are the ones from the first Chipmunks TV series.
Alvin and the Chipmunks Talking Pen
-Also purchased on amazon.com. This pen features the film versions of Alvin, Simon, and Theodore and sings four phrases from the "Chipmunk Song". It hasn't arrived in the mail yet, so I'm interested to hear which version of the "Chipmunk Song" it is.
Alvin and The Chipmunks #1 Harvey Comics (1992)
-Purchased for only $3 in mint condition.
You might be saying to yourself, this is more than a Chipmunks for any one human being. I can't really argue with that, but I do hope to eventually find an Avon shampoo bottle of each of the Chipmunks, or plastic figurines, or dolls that are all the same size. I'd prefer to find these in an antique shop or toy store all at once and have an instant complete set.
We shall see.
Hope you all had a Merry Christmas.
PS: Yesterday I saw the movie for the third time and hope to see it a fourth time before New Year's.

Sounds like you have a lot of fun with your collection.
I'm not nearly as huge a fan of the Chipmunks as you are, but I'm hoping to get off work early tomorrow. If I do, then I'm picking up my three year old early from daycare and were headed to the theater to catch the Chipmunks. He saw the movie posters hanging up in the mall last week and thought they were funny.

I grew up on the cartoons, which are classics!! But I'm not so sure I want to experience our fine-furry friends on the big screen.
Great collection you've got going there. What fun.

I understand your resistance, Jedi Master Mina, I'm not the kind to go to remake films, although, I really don't see this as a remake as much as a prequel. It really doesn't take anything away from the 1960s or 1980s cartoon series. It just adds to the Chipmunk lore.

I'm glad you liked it, Leia. And relieved. I hate it when I recommend a movie and then the person doesn't like it.
I liked the Cartoon Network when it showed cartoons I was familiar with. I hope we can at least get more Chipmunks on DVD. Basically, I like all Chipmunks in all forms.
Yes, I enjoyed the end of the movie, great for a sequel.
I hope you, and everyone, has a great New Year's!

Always great to have a new obsession.
I took my daughter to see Alvin. She's almost two, and had never been to a big-screen movie before, but I figured it was worth a shot. Baaaaaaad idea. She got terrified several times in the first few minutes (it's not a scary movie, but she didn't understand that the chipmunks weren't real, and weren't in real peril), and we ended up leaving after ten minutes. Ah well.

Sigh...
You crazy collectors...
I used to have a Christmas CD with the chipmunks putting interesting spins on some old classics. I loved there version of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", and often sing parts of that when I sing the original version.
God Bless,
May the Force be with you, always...

Do you mean the one where Rudolph sings with them? I just heard that this year and I really like it. Those Chipmunks know everybody.

Just wanted to comment that my brother and his family went to see the film today and the first showing they wanted to see was sold out and the showing they got into eventually sold out also.
