ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS comes to DVD on April Fools' 2008. I'm not a big fan of April 1st, but for "Alvin and the Chipmunks"...well...I can hit the "order" button at amazon.com. Rumor has it that this will be a double disc, and the rumor must be true because the sale price--at amazon--is $20.99 (and no, that's not for blueray). I'm hoping to get a copy for me and some local friends and family (sorry internet friends and family, but you can't be Donald Trump on a Donald Duck budget).
"Alvin and the Chipmunks" was made for $60 million, premiered in theaters December 14, and continues to play in some areas. Domestically, it has hit 209 million and is now the 74th highest grossing US film of all-time. Although I recommend purchasing the DVD, I also recommend going to the theater to see it, after all, the Chipmunks are about ten inches tall (if that) in this film, so when they come to your television, they're gonna be REAL small. Unless you have a large screen TV, then I hope you'll invite me over to watch the movie!
Other 2008 releases I'm looking forward to...
THE NUTTY PROFESSOR 2: FACING THE FEAR
Jerry Lewis always talked about making a sequel to his 1963 classic "The Nutty Professor". In 1996 and 2000 a remake and a subsequent sequel were made, but anyone who has seen the classic knows that Eddie Murphy's version takes a lot of liberties to the original storyline. Now, forty-five years after the vintage comedy, a sequel is FINALLY being made. "Nutty Professor 2: Facing the Fear" is slated for release this year. Jerry is reprising his role, but now, Professor Kelp is a grandfather, and his grandson gets into "that old black magic". The film is animated and hopefully will draw young fans to Jerry. I've known about this project since 2006 and hope that is finished and released this year (maybe by Easter, or at least Halloween).
Wish List...
What follows is a list of films and shows I HOPE finally come to DVD this year...
THE FACTS OF LIFE (Seasons 4-9)-actually, my favorite seasons are 6-9. Poor sales? Hey major studio, why not just print the amount you've sold in the past and if there's more of a demand, print more. Other latter seasons I'd like to see on DVD would be: DIFF'RENT STROKES, GIMME A BREAK, MAMA'S FAMILY, DALLAS
TOGETHER WE STAND-I might be the only person on Earth who remembers this TV series. It starred Scott Grimes ("Critters") and was about a family who had two biological children and adopted their other kids from around the world. The series took a bizzare turn when the actor who played the father quit and it was retitled "Life is Never Easy", but I would like to see the first season issued on DVD.
THE GUARDIAN (Seasons 1-3)-I'd like to buy reputable copies of this series.
EWOKS & DROIDS ADVENTURE HOUR-Mr. Lucas, please give us these shows as they originally appeared.
THE GEISHA BOY and ROCK-A-BYE BABY-two highly rated Jerry Lewis films that were released in Europe (on DVD) last year, but have not been issued in America so far. Of course, I want ALL of his film on DVD, but these two would be nice.
BRIDES OF DRACULA-This is my all-time favorite horror film (or vampire film). It's from Hammer Horror (1960). The movie was released with other Hammer films in 2005, but I want this by itself.
