2008 Will Be a Year of Firsts
There has never been--

an animated "Star Wars" motion picture (in theaters)

a "Star Wars" film that wasn't released in the month of May (I'm talking first time runs, not repeats or Special Editions)

a "Star Wars" movie released the same year as an "Indiana Jones" movie

These are true statements, until this year. In 2008 fans will see an animated "Star Wars" film, a "Star Wars" film not released in May, but August, and an "Indiana Jones" film released the same year as a "Star Wars" film, albeit an animated one.

Any one of these events would be enough to throw most of us for a giant loop.

Let's face it, we haven't seen an "Indy" film since 1989, in fact, I would venture to say that most bloggers at this site never saw an "Indy" film in theaters, or if they did it was the last one.

Then, there's the bombshell of a new "Star Wars" movie. OK, it's a cartoon, but still, it's "Star Wars". This after having to wait sixteen years between the Original and the Prequel Trilogy and just after having been told last year that there would be "no more 'Star Wars'" films and that "the stories of the Skywalker family are finished". Apparently, Lucas rethought things on both counts: it IS another "Star Wars" film (though done in a different media) and it continues, or at least tells a further story, of the Skywalker saga.

I, too, was intrigued to read that Anakin will have an apprentice. Will they kill off a character in a cartoon movie? I mean, we never hear of any such person in the future films (Episodes III-VI). I know there are some rumblings in the EU, but I doubt Lucas is interested in sticking with that. Will his apprentice be male or female, human, or alien? Gee, I might have to purchase a subscription to the Star Wars Insider again.

I also wonder if Hayden, Natalie, Anthony, and other stars will return to voice their roles in this animated motion picture. Does anyone have a clue about that, as of yet?

As for the "Indy" film, I'll tell you a secret. I've never much cared for the Indy series. A few reasons: "Raiders" found Indy too atheist for me, "Temple of Doom" was too gory, and "Last Crusade" made up for that by being too silly. I guess when it comes to Indy films, I'm Goldilocks. Finally, this movie seems "just right" (based on the previews). We shall see.

Please comment.

I wonder if Hayden, Natile, Anthony and other stars will do the voice for the movie.

It would be nice if they all had the time. Anthony is probably the only one who could do it.
We will just have to wait and see.

I saw the preview for Indy on the internet. It looks really good!

I hope so, sequels (or between-quels in this case,) seem to be so much better when the voices are all the same.

No just Anthony. The one playing Anakin did him in the last series plus a few video games.

This is a very popular sentence to respond to, I've noticed. Anyways, it really bugs me when Star Wars can't get its actors to provide voices for the characters in video games and other Star Wars media. The LotR movies always gets Gandalf's "real" voice, as well as many others for almost all the video games. I can understand why the actors for SW might not always be able to do it, but this is a whole movie for crying out loud. It would certainly be nice if the "fake" Anakin would at least make an effort to sound like Hayden. ;)

Apparently, Lucas rethought things on both counts:

I'm still of the opinion that George was talking about official Star Wars movies and not the EU. Of course there will still be more books, TV shows, video games, and other things that tell the stories of the Skywalker family, and that's essentially what this whole Clone Wars thing is. EU on a big scale.

Will they kill off a character in a cartoon movie?

That's what I was thinking as well. It seems likely that she'll have to either die or turn to the Dark Side, or something along those lines. This barely takes place before RotS, and takes place just after AotC, so Anakin didn't get much time with his apprentice.

Anthony has stuck by his character more than any other actor. Very rarely is the character of 3PO listed with Anthony Daniels listed beside him. As for Hayden or Natalie, I doubt it.

I guess I consider an "official" "Star Wars" movie any movie with "Star Wars" in the title. I realize it may not be an "Episode", but it's still "Star Wars". As far as I am concerned all the movies count, even a cartoon (whereas books, etc., Lucas kind of snubs his nose out).

I hope they will be able to get the actors who played them back. I will be shocked if Anthony Daniels doesn't appear as C-3PO, because he voiced him for the cartoon series "Droids" and (I believe) in the previous "Clone Wars" cartoons. I would think, of the ones I named, Natalie Portman would be the hardest to get back, because she is a fantastic actress who I am sure would rather appear in the flesh in a film or a play rather than just a voice.

The voice for Anakin on the trailer doesn't sound like Hayden's to me...but I could be wrong.

Anthony Daniels has been awfully faithful!!

I'm so glad I'm not the only non Indy-aholic here!!!

Indy too atheist in Raiders? He was the only one who seemed to respect the power of the Ark!

Anyhoo, I'd heard that both Sam Jackson and Hayden Christensen have expressed interest in doing the voicework for their characters in the animated show/movie. I wonder if LFL will take them up on their offer -- and if not, why not?

"Raiders of the Lost Ark"; Indy's friend warns him about the power of the Ark, Indy responds: "You know what a cautious fellow I am" and throws a gun into his suitcase, as if he's going to shoot God. Yeah, he was a little too atheist for me. On the other hand, in "Last Crusade" I did like it when Indiana was looking at the different grails and, seeing the simplest one, says, "This is the grail of a carpenter."

I'm not going to get into religion here (though we already got into politics on your last blog entry :D) but what I got from that scene was just another slightly humorous moment that was simply showing how Indy was a reckless swashbuckler in general, as opposed to his own words of caution. At least that's what I saw.

OK, everybody commenting on the Indy movies. Remember, in this blog, I said "I am like Goldilocks when it comes to Indiana Jones movies". Do you people remember Goldilocks? She was a picky brat!
