 | Jerry Lewis in Person |
As most of you who frequently read my blogs know, I enjoy Jerry Lewis films, telethons, and...Jerry Lewis as a person in general. I don't know if you've read much by him, but nearly everything he says, in my estimation, is quotable.
I've known about Jerry all my life (that is, from childhood on), but it was in 2000 when I would say I really became a fan. I was working a very difficult job and began noticing that many of his solo films (the ones without Dean) are about a hard working guy usually getting it laid on thick by his employer. At the time I could really relate.
In 2003, when he began having some noticeable health problems I could relate to that, too. I was encouraged that his serious condition didn't keep him from doing the telethon and gained a lot of inspiration from that kind of courage.
Well, here we are in 2008. Jerry Lewis is scheduled to perform live at the Fantasy Casino in Indio, California. He's going to sing, tell stories and jokes, and there is a montage of his motion picture routines that will be played. The show last for 90 minutes and it's one night only: May 31. Bottom line: I REALLY really REALLY want to go.
I have health problems, as again, frequent readers will be aware. However, I really don't think they will be much of an issue. I'm on the plane, I'm taxied to the hotel, the hotel is where Jerry performs, I go to bed, I get up, I go back to the airport, I get on the plane. I only plan on staying for the one night. And NO, there will be NO gambling (or smoking or drinking). But with a dinner buffet, I'm GONNA EAT.
Anyway, I realize it's a long way to go, I live in Ohio, and since Jerry is feeling better he might show up in Columbus in six months, but I suppose then I'll be able to say, "Hey, I've seen him twice!"
