Return of the Heart Patient
First off, thanks for your prayers, thoughts, and even comments to previous blogs of mine.

I made it. I can't believe how good I am feeling after a nap. I didn't sleep well in the hospital. People came in constantly (nurses, techs, docs, nurse practitioners, and most gratefully family and friends). There was also a lot of beeping and whistling from the machines.

OK, so I didn't really get a chance to watch the "Star Wars" films as I would have liked. I did, however, see most of "Empire" and "Jedi" (though "Empire" was muted for the last half hour due to medical visits).

About two years ago I posted a blog asking, was Darth Vader's offer on Bespin literal: "We would be honored, if you would join us?"

At the time I was shot down at the idea, but after seeing it again I think I could be on to something.

Vader was trying to turn Luke to his side, if "I am your father" didn't do it, maybe "all your friends are doing it" would.

Also, this makes all the characters very noble. Now, they are not sticking to the right side for moral, ethic, brain-centered reasons, but for their friend, for personal, heart-centered reasons (I think both are worthwhile).

Think of what Vader could have offered Han, Leia, and Chewbacca:

Vader could have wiped Solo's debt to Jabba the Hutt clean, or simply destroyed Jabba.

He could have offered Princess Leia a "New Alderaan", perhaps the Empire wouldn't interfere there, and though she would not bring peace to the galaxy, she could restore it to the sons and daughters of Alderaan.

Vader could have even tempted Chewbacca with equal rights for Wookiees.

If Han, Leia, and Chewie were tempted in this way imagine what it would mean, what they were willing to give up, not just for a cause, but for Luke.
If that's the cause then they immediately began to pay for their lack of willingness to join. Han was sent to Jabba, Leia's personal world crumbled as Han was taken away from her, and Chewbacca was imprisoned in a cel.

Just some food for thought.

It's good to be back.

R2-D2!

I think that Vader was very serious in his offer. If he got Luke and his buds he could easily overthrow the Emperor.

Glad to hear you're doing well! :) And your ideas regarding Vader's intentions are very interesting... I never thought of that!

People came in constantly (nurses, techs, docs, nurse practitioners, and most gratefully family and friends).

I hated that when I had my appendix out. All I wanted was over half an hour of sleep at a time. Every 30 minutes they came and took my blood pressure and pulse. Plus they never got it right the first time so they had to do it at least twice. Stupid nurses aids.

Great to hear you're feeling better!

I don't think Vader actually could have offered much to the rebels. Chewie would be disinclined to join the Empire, but would go with Han, in the end. Han would be disinclined to join the Empire, but probably could be bought, but he'd go with Leia in the end. And Leia wouldn't go with the Empire period.

There's nothing that Vader could offer Chewie or Leia that they'd believe, he could actually grant, or would overcome their principles.

But that doesn't say anything about Vader's intent. I don't think it could have ever worked, but he might have made a serious attempt.

zach-I can totally relate to your experience.

JawaJoey-that was kind of my point, Han, Chewbacca, and Leia would never fall for an offer like that, but I do think Vader would have made it, because he wanted to cover all of his bases.

The bad part was that my mom was in the room who is also a nurse. They could have just had her push the button on the machine instead of sending in someone who isnt even a nurse to do it and screw it up. Half of them dont even know how to do bloodpressure the old fashioned way. The quality of education is declining. My mom told me about how one of the college kids who was working with her (some program they have) was graduating in a few months after four years and didnt know how to do blood pressure at all.

Wow, very interesting thoughts! Vader certainly could have made such an offer. One thing I hope our heroes would have kept in mind is that any "deal with the devil" is bound to go bad. But I really don't think they would have listened to him anyway.

Glad you are feeling better!

LOL - love this. ;) Hilarious that Leia is on top - so true! :^O
