Sometimes the Bonuses are Best
Recently I purchased Droids #7 & 8 (from the Star/Marvel Comics series; this completes my collection) and Ewoks #10 from a seller on eBay. Today these items arrived.

Along with them came what I thought was just packaging. I almost throw it out, thinking it was old newspaper. Well, to an extent, that's exactly what it is. It happens to be a complete copy of #1 of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Newspaper, the issue is simply entitled "Star Wars". Although it does have other articles on Sci-Fi Spacecrafs and "Star Trek", the bulk of the issue is "Star Wars".

The fanzine has illustrations of the Mos Eisley cantina creatures as well as blueprints of C-3PO and R2-D2 and an article on the spaceships of "Star Wars".

It's not in mint condition, but it is 31 yeas old. There are also articles on Jawas, Wookiees, and Sandpeople that I am sure will be a treat to read.

I was surprised that the seller sent this item as a bonus, since I have seen it priced at $25 by itself in antique and collectible shops. I feel like I was given a piece of "Star Wars" fandom history.

It came VERY close to ending up in the trash. I'm glad I gave it a second look.

Hey, congrats on completing your collection! That's gotta feel great. Makes me wish I would complete my vintage card sets. And that's so cool about the unexpected bonus! I have no clue about that kind of stuff, but I'm glad it made its way into the hands of someone who can truly appreciate it.

Ironically, Zach Starwalker, I will probably NOT be shopping on eBay again. I did also have a bad experience there recently. Still, I have had a lot of good experiences.

Very cool, FAN4YRS!! I have never purchased anything on eBay, but this story actually makes me less wary!

I love to read stuff that was written at the time of any given event...always fascinating.

Wow - that is so awesome! :D I'm an avid e-Bay-er, and there are some great sellers out there. It's a community - just like this one - so yes, you will run into the poodoo scum every once in a while; for the most part, though I've had great experiences there.

I always look at the packaging - newspapers and such - I love seeing how different things are in other parts of the country...what's making headlines, the local flavor of wherever it came from, etc. You REALLY scored on yours, though!! :D

It was a good experience. I need to take the time to read the whole thing cover to cover. I'm still smiling over the spelling of "Wookie".
