Now that we have had six installments of "Star Wars", the past and the present (I'm still holding you to three more films, George, detailing the future) the question must be asked: Where Do Ewoks Fit In?
We obviously have them in Episode VI, but then we have two Ewok films (as I understand they were shown in theaters in Europe and televised in America): "An Ewok Adventure" (also known as "Caravan of Courage") and "Ewoks: The Battle for Endor". We also have "Ewoks" the animated series which ran from 1985-1987 (and the comic book spin-off).
OK, here are some facts. We know that in each case we are dealing with the same individual Ewoks. Teebo, Wicket, Cheif Cherpa, and Logray are all involved in the "Star Wars" film, their own movies, and the animated series. Therefore, we cannot be dealing with a lengthy period of time (as we are in the "Star Wars" Saga of six films).
We also know that the Ewoks do not speak Basic and are unfamiliar with human beings when Leia and the others arrive on Endor. It seems as though Cindal and her family are the first to introduce Basic to the Ewoks (they didn't need to pick it up with See Threepio around).
So, here is how I would place the events...
The Ewok animated series and comic books...
These occurred prior to the Empire's arrival when the Ewoks and other natives lived without the influence of humanoids.
Return of the Jedi...
Ewoks are introduced to humans, fear them first, because initially they are Imperial, but then befriend them in the form of Luke, Leia, and Han.
An Ewoks Adventure (Caravan of Courage)...
Now that peace has been brought to the known universe with the destruction of the Death Star a family can travel peacefully throughout the galaxy and not worry about Imperial search or attack. The family crashlands on Endor. The Ewoks take them in based on their past experience with friendly humans.
Ewoks: The Battle for Endor...
The first time we hear Ewoks speak Basic (of course the comics and cartoons were translated).
THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH MY THEORY...
Endor's moon would likely have been severely damaged by the Death Star's destruction and Ewoks would have had to have been placed in another environment or would have died!!!????!!!????
