Results of the "Star Wars" Psychological Test
First, a few statements:

The Star Wars Psychological Test was designed to see what kind of people are "Star Wars" fans, what they enjoy most about "Star Wars", and what this enjoyment/interest says about them. Of course, I count myself a "Star Wars" fan, but refrained from taking the test.

Also, this test was designed because most quizzes/tests to find out how much of a fan you are have been based on collecting habits and trivia. However, fandom isn't limited to what you can afford to buy, keep, and collect, and it isn't limited to trivia. A fan feels something for what he/she is a fan of. I am not trying to knock previous tests/quizzes, but I wanted to give fans with little interest in trivia, collecting, or little money, to have something they could measure their fandom with.

(1) The first question asked if you take "Star Wars" seriously and why. Sixteen individuals responded to the test, but 13 people responded to this question. Of the 13, 2 claimed they do not take it seriously, so we have eleven.

The eleven responders gave mostly serious answers (with the exception of "I am a geek that way").

Most fans take the series seriously for reasons close to the heart: "It is the closest thing I have to a religion", typed one respondment, while others said: "It comes very close to my religious beliefs," similarly, another took the moral "messages" seriously, another simply stated "I believe". Two responders mentioned the drama: "[It] affects my soul" and "powerful".

No one's answer included the fact that 5 out of 6 films are about war, no one mentioned the extinction of the Jedi, or the extermination of cultures (first an attempted one in Episode I and a successful one in Episode IV).

This leads us to understand that the messages, religious significance, and drama are more personal than these things. It is the drama of the individual character the fan is pulled in by. This means that most "Star Wars" fans probably take more notice when Vader and Luke are speaking in the Second Death Star than they do when the Gungans fight for their freedom at the end of Episode I. A "Star Wars" fan is probably more likely, in real life, to be concerned for a person caught in the midst of war, than for the war itself. He/she reacts to the private, personal struggles, and war and crisis on a grand scale may be too emotionally difficult to comprehend.

The Second Question asked what planet "Star Wars" fans would visit if they could travel to just one:

Nine planets were selected by fans. Two were exclusively seen in the Original Triology: Bespin and Hoth. Two were exclusively seen in the Prequel Trilogy: Felucia and Kashyyyk. Four were seen in both trilogies: Alderaan, Naboo, Tatooine, and (if it counts) the Death Star. The other has only been written of: Corellia.

These results are very interesting. With the exception of the Death Star all of these worlds are loaded with Galactic heroes. Most are either shining examples of pushing back the Empire, or becoming its victim. Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, Aayla, Chewbacca, See Threepio, and Artoo Detoo either came from these worlds or faced down the Empire.

What was interesting about the results of this question were the planets that were not named: Corusant, where the Empire thrived and the Jedi Order fell and Dagobah, where Yoda died and Luke had his Dark vision.

For the most part, with the exception of Alderaan, Felucia, Bespin, and the Death Star, "Star Wars" fans would live to journey to worlds where they recall good things happen within the series (and even the Death Star had good things occur).

The Third Question dealt with "Which Star Wars Character are you most like"...There were 13 responders to this question...
Two people each said they were eithe rlike Anakin, R2-D2, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, or Han Solo. One each said they were like Qui-Gonn Ginn, Leia, and Jar Jar Binks.

While the selected characters had a wide range of differences; some are human, some droids, and others alien, some are cool, others clumsy, some confused. All of them fall on the same side, the good one.

This says that most "Star Wars" fans relate to the "good" side, the right, the upside of life. Or, perhaps, they would like to believe this is so. At any rate, no one said they were Palpatine, Boba or Jango Fett, or Darth Vader. Even though these characters might look "cool", "Star Wars" fans would rather relate to Jar Jar Binks, R2-D2, and Jedi heroes.

The Fourth Question Asked if aliens are equal to humans in the series, and what is the evidence that they are. 12 individuals responded to this question.

All 12 respondents said they were equal and the evidence included: "[they have] souls, families, give love", they did "what humans could/couldn't do", there were "Jedi aliens", they displayed "emotions, feelings, will", "some were more intelligent than most humans (Yoda)", other evidence from one fan was simply: "Chewie and Yoda".

While some answers involved technology, many had to do with common traits that these GFFA aliens shared with real world humans. This acceptance of various aliens may be a sign that "Star Wars" fans are accepting of different cultures, races, and ideas in their own real lives. It is also a tribute to George Lucas for making such believable counterparts to the human characters.

Question FIve asked what "Star Wars" food you would like to try. Two said "R2-D2", but more relevant answers included: Taun Taun, Nuna, Reek, Duck or Bantha, Blue Milk, Jawa Juice, and Nerf. One responder said "vegeterain", afraid that food in GFFA was intelligent (that's why people here on Earth don't eat animals either).

This question was attempting to discover how "into" "Star Wars" fans are. Not counting those who responded "Artoo-Detoo", seven out of 16 fans gave an answer. Could this mean that nearly 50% of all "Star Wars" fans have thought so thoroughly about the GFFA that they could select menu items in the Tatooine cantina?

Question Six asked what "Star Wars" fans would like to read as a story. This question was asked to discover if the EU was meeting the current wants of the fans. They answers seems to be a resounding "no" as many fans were interested in stories about lesser known characters or events.

Three fans expressed an interested particularly in Yoda. Two wanted to hear of his younger years, while one wanted to know about Yoda's planet.
Other story ideas were: [Stories about the era] right after the Empire gained control, FX7, the Jedi-era story of the Bothans who spied for the Rebel Alliance, Shmi and the conception of Anakin, Jango Fett, Darth Raven during his outer rim era, Droopy McCool, and Han's adventures prior to Episode IV. There is a series of books by Brain Daley concerning Han Solo, but as for these other requests, they have as yet gone unmet.

Question Seven asked if you were forming a Survivor Island team, who would you select to be on it? Here are the answers,
#1--Chewbacca, with six votes, most people wanted the Wookiee
#2--a three-way tie with R2-D2, Princess Leia, and several Ewoks--so much for people "hating" Ewoks, most of us would want them in our corner
#5--a five-way tie: C-3PO, Yoda, Mace Windu, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker
#10--Obi Wan Kenobi
#11--a six-way tie (with one vote each): Jar Jar Binks, Aayla, Anakin, Boba Fett, Republic Commandos, 501st Legion

As you can see, most of these characters are "good guys". "Star Wars" fans affliated with the Light Side and would like the Light Side to associate with them. Also, most of the characters are either featured only in the Original Trilogy, or in both Trilogies, perhaps we trust the folks in Episodes 4-6 more than the ones in Episodes 1-3.

Question Eight asked which character you would feel safest with, here's the answers:
Yoda (with six votes), Obi wan (with three votes), one vote each: Boba Fett, Padme, Shmi, Threepio, Artoo, General Grevious, and Han Solo

Oddly, Chewbacca didn't make this list. Again, most characters are good, and some are not warriors (Shmi, Padme, and the droids) so some fans took this question as "emotionally safe", not physically. In a GFFA some prefer loyalty and those who can keep a secret to those good with a lightsaber or a blaster.

Question Nine inquired about the friendship in Star Wars you admire most. Six people said R2-D2 and See Threepio, four said Han Solo and Chewbacca, two said Han Solo and Luke Skywalker, one of each responded: Obi-Wan and Anakin, and Leia Organa & Chewbaca.

Once again, we see some interesting results. First, friendship is not limited to humans, we have Chewbacca, and R2 & 3PO coming to the top of the list. Again, we see that friendship is an Episode 4-6 idea (with the exception of R2 & 3PO and Obi-Wan and Anakin--which began in Episodes 1-3 and continued in the next Trilogy). We also find, in Leia and Chewbacca, and Han and Chewbacca, that friendships can cross alien races.

Question Ten asked what part of the Saga (Episodes 1-6) was the MOST unnerving for you...
(1) Aayla's death, (2) Vader/Emperor looking over Death Star, (3) Sandpeople attack (two listed this), (4) Ominous Clone March at the end of Episode II, (5) Qui-Gonn's death, (6) Vader crying in ROTS, (7) Duel of the Fates (Episode II), (8) last half of Episode III, (9) tentactle thing in Jabba's Palace, (10) Luke getting fried by Palpatine, (11) R2 blasted by Jawas, (12) Order 66 like 9/11

Most of these include something terrible happening to characters "Star Wars" fans relate to, not just scary moments, like the mynock on the Millennium Falcon window.

**RESULTS**
Star Wars fans relate to "good" characters vs. "bad"
Star Wars fans appreciate the day to day realities of Star Wars, not just Special FX/Sci-Fi jargon
Star Wars fans also appreciate entertainment with deeper meanings than typical film fare
Star Wars fans open to others and friendship with others
Star Wars fans want EU to focus on characters and eras not yet disclosed to the fullest

Blimey, I feel so... naked.

Very thorough and concise, nice job. I didn't realise you were going to decipher our answers quite so seriously (although my answers still stand).

It took me about 6 minutes to read this - so by my calculations, I owe you about $45.

Nicely compiled! As a geek who loves data, stats and research myself (not saying you're a geek...ok ,so yes you are...LOL), this was "impressive!" :D

You could seriously look into getting this published in a professional psychological journal if you elaborated the numbers and redistributed the "test" on a larger scale (i.e. n=a much larger number)

Wowee...I concur!

Bravo!
