Whoa! It's like the (purple) lightsaber is coming right at me!
This is mostly just a short rambling post reacting to a bit of news. Not interested in that? Take your consolation prize of another Star Wars motivational poster type thing spliced together by me.
Star Wars Motivational Poster #5

I'll try to work up something more interesting next time. Maybe I'll argue how cloning is a crime against dolphins.

No I'm not talking about the theoretical Star Wars 3D re-release in 2007...

I'm talking about Star Wars: the Live Action Series.

Thanks to Leah for informing me of the TIME article that brought up this bit of shock.

R.C.Do you think audiences are so technically sophisticated now that they know the difference between formats?

George Lucas: .... When you see a 3D movie, you assume it's a higher-quality movie and it's something you don't see on television. Now the television show I'm working on, the Star Wars television show, is 3D.

Some Star Wars TV news?!
From the Flannelled One himself?!

Then again... Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself?

Maybe he just means "I'll be working on Clone Wars 3D"
Or "Star Wars TV will have lots of CGI animation"

It's too bad I wasn't at the interview and TIME wasn't smart like me and would have decided to ask a follow up question for clarification...

Oh wait. They did.

R.C.
When you said you were going to do Star Wars in 3D, do you mean in the old-fashioned 3D?

George Lucas: Yeah, with glasses and everything.

Wow. I have no idea if I'm very very scared or very interested... Probably both. I've never liked 3D films, they hurt your eyes after awhile. What is George thinking?!? He's completely out of touch with his audience he has no idea what he's do...

George Lucas: I was very much against 3D until I saw this new process and said, hey, this actually works in a way that it should work, which is it doesn't call attention to itself, you forget that you're watching in 3D, it's just a nicer process.

Blast it George! It's very hard to start bashing you for Jar Jar or Greedo shooting first if you keep interrupting me!

So I admit, I'm scared by the TV show the same way I was scared by the Prequels and their announcement of using CGI so extensively. I still don't love the style of throwing an actor into a greenscreen room and yelling "Faster and more intense!"... But it looked far better than I expected. So I'm going to give George the benefit of the doubt here and assume it's going to look nice and not make me want to rip my eyes out of their sockets. :D

I just hope they aren't going to charge $50 for 3D glasses that don't slip off of your nose.

I hope not - anyway I'll be ready. I got my 3-D glasses from the back of a box of Honey Nut Cherrios :p

What! That's awful! I hate 3D glases! They brake too easily!

Why can't George just work with the guys who are doing AVATAR!

If you want a serious answer... AVATAR appears based on internet searches to be an animated program on Nickelodeon. Animated programs would have little, if anything, to do with this live action program. Also, Nickelodeon is owned by Viacom, which Lucas has fewer ties to than several other networks.

I was feeling a bit confused as to whether or not the live action TV show was going to be in 3D, or maybe I was just blocking out the possibility, not willing to accept it. There were a few TV shows in the past year that played with the 3D thing a bit. It seemd like some passing fad to me. And I thought GL was just planning to do a 3D movie project.

I guess I'll give the "master" the benefit of the doubt here, but the one thing that will always be bad for 3D is having to wear glasses. Who wants to bother with accessories while watching TV? Gathering chips and pops is work enough!

A long time ago, on a planet called earth far, far away, there was a massive cross-eyed epidemic that spread across the planet, by earthlings watching a show called Star Wars in 3D...And Darth 3D Glasses was the cause of the epidemic...This was known through out the planet as the "Dark Cross-Eyed Times"...

Need I say more...Thanks for the update, Rive.

It is suspiciously vague, and I feel a bit apprehensive because of it. ]:)

It is suspiciously vague, and I feel a bit apprehensive because of it.

Supposedly he's doing the first 25 scripts for the Star Wars Live Action TV Show and not being that involved with Clone Wars 3D... So I suspect if he says "Now the television show I'm working on, the Star Wars television show, is 3D." He'd be refering to the live action show. But yep, true. Nothing 100% confirmed here. Just that at least one of them will be in "glasses" 3D, so I supose all my points still apply :D

the 3D used in Chicken Little is cool and full colour that didn't hurt my eyes. It's done in digital cinemas by this new Kodak system

STILL VAGUE! Me no like vague, nor 3D glasses. I'm putting trust in George that he'll make 3D so we dont need accessories... maybe just a one time brain implant or something.

I suppose if the 3D glasses were cool 80s wrap arounds, it would be okay. :)

I just hope that there is an equal option to view the same material in non-3D.

Just to clear things up for you all...

The new animated Clone Wars cartoon will be in 3D the same way Toy Story is 3D. It is CGI animation, there is no glasses.

The actual 3D movies, however, will be the kind of 3D as in the way it is projected. With the glasses.

This is the system being used. Peter Jackson and James Cameron were impressed with it too:

I'm scared, so scared. I know the glasses will be some dumb format that nobody usues so you have to buy the 1138-V.2.89 Lucas only 3-D glasses.

*ducks a purple lightsaber from television*

"This 3-D stuff is cool! It was like that lightsaber was coming right at us!"

"Hey, why the heck is it purple and everones else's is blue and green?"

I just hope they aren't going to charge $50 for 3D glasses that don't slip off of your nose.

And I hope they will find a solution for those unfortunate ones like me, who already have to wear real glasses... those 3D thingis never worked out with them...
