Wow, it's finally good to have something to talk about related to Star Wars TV. Wonder who leaked the footage in the first place? Well thank you to whoever it was (hope they didn't get fired ). Mods/admins if you don't want people to be seeing this yet (though I'm sure it's going to spread like wildfire anyway) feel free to just delete my link to the footage at the bottom of this entry and leave the discussion of the pros and cons.

This mostly just confirms some things we've been hearing. Yep it's between Episode III and IV. Yep it's happening. Yep it's still in rough form (the hyperspace star effect isn't put in, the ship looks very incomplete [engine glow is missing from first shot], and there's no star field behind the crawl footage [that could be due to the quality of the video not being quite HD-TV though lol]). So there's not much to judge here just yet... But it's heading in the correct direction as far as I'm concerned.

Pros:

Still using all the classic intro elements... A Long Time Ago, Classic Star Wars Logo (Well... Almost classic, "The Series" added below it), Opening Crawl (though it looks like they're cutting it off early in order to save screen time.

Using a Falcon like vessel evokes feelings of the Originals but keeps some of the more symmetrical elements seen in the Prequels.

Looks like it won't be Jedi-centric! Yay for a return to heroes we can relate to more easily!

Starts off with a very brief mention of where we left off in Episode III and alludes to Episode IV in the last paragraph. Good way to show scope.

Cons:

They're putting it in FULL SCREEN? Go widescreen! This should have been an obvious choice. Hopefully they'll change this before it goes to air in a couple years....

Using the actual Millennium Falcon might have been a better idea from a marketing and fan service standpoint...

Crawl has to be shortened for screen time. It also has the title and episode number inverted (Title then episode number instead of the way we see it in the movies as episode number than title). I assume this is because they're going to have the actual show be called "Star Wars: The Series" and have story arcs with the crawl title followed by the episode number within that storyline. So this isn't so much a con as an inevitable change from movie to television.

We were told that main characters wouldn't be making major appearances, so mentioning Vader twice and Palpatine once is a bit of a tease isn't it?

The title is "The Dark Times" then in the first line we see "It is a dark time for the galaxy" and then near the last line we see "in this dark time without a new hope". I want the fact that it's a dark time emphasized too... But this is just too much! (though as mentioned before I like the allusion to Episode IV).
