Wow, it's finally good to have something to talk about related to Star Wars TV. Wonder who leaked the footage in the first place? Well thank you to whoever it was (hope they didn't get fired  ). Mods/admins if you don't want people to be seeing this yet (though I'm sure it's going to spread like wildfire anyway) feel free to just delete my link to the footage at the bottom of this entry and leave the discussion of the pros and cons.
This mostly just confirms some things we've been hearing. Yep it's between Episode III and IV. Yep it's happening. Yep it's still in rough form (the hyperspace star effect isn't put in, the ship looks very incomplete [engine glow is missing from first shot], and there's no star field behind the crawl footage [that could be due to the quality of the video not being quite HD-TV though lol]). So there's not much to judge here just yet... But it's heading in the correct direction as far as I'm concerned.

Pros:
Still using all the classic intro elements... A Long Time Ago, Classic Star Wars Logo (Well... Almost classic, "The Series" added below it), Opening Crawl (though it looks like they're cutting it off early in order to save screen time.
Using a Falcon like vessel evokes feelings of the Originals but keeps some of the more symmetrical elements seen in the Prequels.
Looks like it won't be Jedi-centric! Yay for a return to heroes we can relate to more easily!
Starts off with a very brief mention of where we left off in Episode III and alludes to Episode IV in the last paragraph. Good way to show scope.

Cons:
They're putting it in FULL SCREEN? Go widescreen! This should have been an obvious choice. Hopefully they'll change this before it goes to air in a couple years....
Using the actual Millennium Falcon might have been a better idea from a marketing and fan service standpoint...
Crawl has to be shortened for screen time. It also has the title and episode number inverted (Title then episode number instead of the way we see it in the movies as episode number than title). I assume this is because they're going to have the actual show be called "Star Wars: The Series" and have story arcs with the crawl title followed by the episode number within that storyline. So this isn't so much a con as an inevitable change from movie to television.
We were told that main characters wouldn't be making major appearances, so mentioning Vader twice and Palpatine once is a bit of a tease isn't it?
The title is "The Dark Times" then in the first line we see "It is a dark time for the galaxy" and then near the last line we see "in this dark time without a new hope". I want the fact that it's a dark time emphasized too... But this is just too much! (though as mentioned before I like the allusion to Episode IV).

The show should follow the 501st and show how much the faction shift affected the clone armies. After all it is easier to relate to clones then jedi, then again normal people would be easier. AHH whatever!

Well I was hoping that anyone I successfully tricked would be all excited and would click to see the "footage" before looking at any comments. Then I placed that first comment as an additional "buffer zone"... But yes, it was far from a perfect plan

So I clicked on your blog to see what Rive was talking about as i usually do and then I click on the movie link, and i have a few things too tell you.
1) Nice joke. Didn't fall for it though
2)Nice ship, although if it had more details, more people would have bought the joke more.
3) Firefly!! why is everybody obsesed with that? Not that anything is wrong with that...but maybe it would have been funnier to have the simpsons' opening theme instead, specially after today's announcement. What.. you haven't heard? Well, they finally have the date for the release of the movie!!! Sorry, after ROTS, there are not many movies that I am looking forward to watching.

The general reaction is supposed to be...
1. A long time ago...: Woah! He wasn't kidding?!
2. Opening logo: Wow, it's real! Look at that new logo!
3. Opening crawl: Interesting...
That's the point I could have killed it and it would have been more of an April's Fools thing... and revealed tomorrow that it had all been a joke.
4. Serenity music + Ship...
People who have seen Serenity: Ha, it was all a joke. I expected as much.
People who haven't seen Serenity: What the? That doesn't sound like John Williams and that ship looks pretty bad even for a pre-vis.
5. Credits roll up + Reveal: Rive... I hate you.

It acomplished its goal then
If I had planned this out sooner (rather than around 9 PM on April 1st) I might have put a nicer looking ship in... But if I had put a nicer looking ship in when I started it (9PM April 1st) then it probably wouldn't have been done rendering until today or tomorrow rather than being only 1 day late.

So when you say "rendering" do you mean downloading the graphics into your movie file as you edit? Who drew that anyway - anyone you know?

I mean literal "rendering". I downloaded the model from www.blenderwars.com but did all the animating myself. You then need to render the 3D animation.

As windu said. Yes. Yes you should.
See Firefly first if you can. Amazon.com has the complete DVD set fairly cheap considering it's 14+ hours of some of the best Sci-Fi out there. And one of the best westerns for that matter
