Welcome to the semi-grand relaunch of Rive's Uncharted Settlements. I figured that being gone for over a quarter of a year justified a brand new chapter in the blog, following - of course -
Chapter 7 which was the first entry ever
So I've shot through a few entries here and there - looks like most of the usual suspects are still around - except me.
Why have I been gone?

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE!
A: Rive has been off exploring the ocean floor on a quest for the legendary city of Atlantis. In the process he was captured by a team of international terrorists and kept in captivity for three months.
B: Rive is an evil robot and was busy being upgraded to Kill'o'ware Version 6.1
C: Rive has been rather busy and blogging was one of the last things on his mind.
D. All of the above

So now that we have that settled and done with. Thanks for all the pleasant e-mails asking whether I was dead or not over the past few months. Hopefully I responded if you asked
So what have I missed?
Rive's Uncharted Settlements - 1 Year Anniversary
I had actually intended to make my grand return on Aug 29, 2006, but needless to say that slipped by! I actually received one e-mail
demanding that I return to write up an entry commemorating the occasion
I'd write up more, but in the words of River Tam: "Day" is a vestigial mode of time measurement based on solar cycles. It's not applicable. So who cares about 365?
Star Wars - The Old Timer's Editon - Released on DVD
After hearing that the transfer wasn't much better than some bootlegs that have apparently been around for years (not that I'd know anything about that), I hadn't intended to buy them at the rather high cost of $30 per movie, but just yesterday I found them for $12.99 a piece at good ol' Fry's Electronics and snagged them up.
I'd say more but this will doubtless be at least 1 full entry.
Kirk shot FIRST!
Special Editionized episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series have begun airing nationwide. Very fun stuff considering I've probably only seen half of the episodes. Interestingly they're redoing all the ships in computer rendered graphics but are duplicating the original models' movements, angles, speeds - you name it. It's bringing an old series up to modern standards without harming the original intentions. I love it
Firefly Season 2 Announced
I know it didn't happen! But it's my blog and I can miss what I like. Imagined or otherwise!
Battlestar Galactica Season 3 Begins
Well I suppose that just happened last night, so I can't be blamed for not writing an entry on that. The season opener was rather controversial. I liked it - except for Starbuck's storyline being accelerated far too quickly and to the point of complete unbelievablity.
Star Wars - Bloodlines Released
I have it sitting next to me right now, but haven't even begun reading it yet. I did make time to read quite a few things over the past few months. Star Wars: Betrayal, X-Wing: Book 1, The Kite Runner, and Star Trek: Ship of the Line among them.
Hm... I can't think of much else worth mentioning in the world of fiction worth mentioning...
Are you still working on Why Was Padme's Lightsaber Purple? What about that comic series about Mace Windu? What about...
I don't know whether to be happy or sad that I got
more emails about this than why I was gone. In any case... I have done a bit of work on the Mace Windu series (which has been expanded quite a bit in scope and likely won't focus on Windu alone), the first 4 issues' plotlines have been fleshed out a bit more. More importantly I started working with vector graphics, which makes the images look a great deal smoother and
MUCH easier and faster to color.
New Method
Old Method
That's a rather extreme example of how bad the old coloring method could look (note the blurred lines and color bleeding), but it gets the point across
I suppose that's enough for this brief check-in I've been meaning to do for weeks now. Keep flyin' bloggers.
