Lucas, Sabers, and Jar Jar - Oh My!
You can watch the entire segment, including Lucas's appearance, here. The duel is separate and viewable here (linked later on also).

You can catch a higher quality version of ILM's entry to the challenge (not a contest!) at our own starwars.com

I've been a devout follower of The Daily Show/Colbert Report Comedy Hour for the past four months or so, so I was aware that they were announcing the winner of the Colbert Green Screen Challenge (not a contest!) last night. I was, however, completely caught off-guard by Dear Old George's (A title I've reinstated since the Old Timer's Edition of the Original Trilogy was printed on DVD) surprise appearance on the show.

He was actually featured rather briefly because Colbert's latest "Tek Janson Adventure" replaced the interview segment normally on the show. The cartoon was appropriate to show with George there, since it mocks the Adventure Sci-Fi genre, but it's a real shame that the opportunity to have some real fun interviewing Mr. Lucas was wasted.

There was - of course - some fun :D
(I find it rather cute that George uses a "Force Push" in the mock battle)

George 1, Colbert 0 B-)

The only thing I'm really interested in here is if George is an actual fan of the show? He comes running out and does a fairly clever impersonation of how Colbert normally greets his guests (showy and drawing attention away from the guest) - which seems to catch Colbert off-guard for a moment :)
I wonder if he picked that up specifically due to his appearing on the show, or if he's an actual long-time viewer. Kinda humanizes rich director folk if they're watching the same show as you, eh? :p

ILM's entry is obviously the most impressive of the entries and kudos to them for going all out (seemingly going back into the greenscreen archives rather than simply placing Colbert "over" the movie footage with Obi-Wan). As for the Jar Jar segment? Amusing and unexpected that they'd go to that much effort! Is that Ahmed Best doing the voice? It sure sounds like it! The joke about Bush was a bit much for my tastes, but the surprise appearance in itself was wonderful.

Favorite moment - George being "not so sure" if he owned Episode I. ;)

All in all: a pleasant and near jaw dropping suprise. This is why I hate spoilers for books/movies/tv shows, it takes away the fun :D

My hubby actually had the Colbert Report on (I'm not a watcher of it myself), so I caught the SW segment of the Green Screen Challenge and was RIVETED when George came on at the end (when I heard the lightsabers click on was when my attention was caught)!

It was so very cool!!! B-)

Thanks for linking it and letting me enjoy again, Rive!! :D

I saw that last night. I was amazed when I saw George L. as he was called by Colbert come out. I was actually about to go to sleep cause I had a test today, but I stayed up anyway. Well worth it. The duel was great.

Kudos to the site for not letting it slip in the newspost on Tuesday. B-)

Well I need to start making up for that 3 month void :D

Highly unlikely considering the show identifies the winner as "Bonnie R" and Bonniegrrl's name is Bonnie Burton (at least according to her blog's profile).

Hey there Mr. Rive! That was totally hilarious!:^O

Bonnie was neither solid nor empowered IMO. What the heck was that? A flippin 40.0 she got? Sheesh!

And my sweet George was jipped I tell you! Jipped! A 39.9?? What's that!!

No seriously, that was so great. Really enjoyed it. (Except for the part at the end; So that's what GL looks like when he's about to cry? Hmmm. Ever think that really even happens? ;)

Thanks for the fun! :)

I'm glad that Jar Jar finally had a comeback after his unmentionable role in TPM. Just like Vader, a bad character has been redeemed.

I am praying for a Jar Jar/Colbert team up in the new Star Wars TV series. Well, mostly Colbert though. He would kick some major butt.

Bonnie did a bang up job!

And finally, there should be a new greenscreen challenge of Colbert dueling Lucas. It would so rock!

It's just the rulingest to see George go all out and really play - and with his own toys no less.

Props to Colbert, especially for the GSC. I do like the guy, and watch the show, but it took me a little while... John Stewart always held my number one spot (did I just say that out loud?).

Bah! They ripped off another one of my publicity shots for Bonnie R's picture.

Dude, I thought reason for your departure was due to you running out of space on here. But I have been known to be wrong from time to time.

Yes, you do Ami, if you wanna see Da Maker kicking some Colbert butt. Tis very funny!! Love the reference he makes towards EP1.

I was completly suprised when watching the Report during lunch yesterday (I guess its the taped delayed version?). It was great fun and I knew someone more technically savvy would post a good entry about it.

Still looking for that entry though.:p

Seriously, nice work Rive. Did I mention its nice to have you back?
