Belated Bloodlines Book-Blurb
Lots and lots of topics I've been meaning to cover. I was originally planning to post them all at once, but I didn't want to subject you to that 4,000 word monster all at once, so I'm splitting it up over the next couple of weeks :D

Apologies for not commenting on many blogs lately. So many entries to read, so little time ; /

This is a rather non-spoilery review, but if you're like me and don't want to know anything about something you haven't seen/read yet.... Stop reading.

I disliked it, which is a real shame, since I liked the previous Legacy novel (Betrayal). To offset the scathing nature of this review here's a quick little picture I did of Mr. Fett. I'm not completely happy with my attempt to transfer him to the Clone Wars style I've been working in, but it's far more successful than my first attempt (which was so laughable it shall forever remain offline).

The reason for my disliking Bloodlines may be the fact that I'm a mean old man with a bias for the Original Trilogy (our ships had wires holding them up, and that's the way we liked it, gorramit!)

Honestly though, this book takes place 62 years after the Prequels. How many times do we really need to reference them?

By the end of the book I just felt bad for Fett, not because of all these supposed emotional problems he's having, but because (by my estimation) he's thought of his papa 7,820,185,248 times over the course of the past 6 decades. Or 6.7 times per minute. You'd think Boba could become his own person and stop thinking about Jango after that many years, but apparently every single time someone breathes, drinks something, or eats, our dear old Boba thinks of papa, because he used to do those things! ?:|

Boba's haphazard devotion to Mandalorian culture also confused me. He never learned, or wished to learn, even basic Mando language. Yet he believes very firmly that when someone turns 13 he is then a man. This even goes so far that another character reminds him that not all people in the galaxy think that way. Gee, you'd think that Fett would have picked up on that over his 50+ years of bounty hunting, but I guess not.

Related to that, did Ben Skywalker really need to think about Mandalorian boys becoming men when they turn 13 twice? Once was enough to club me over the head with the attempt to tie the two plots together, thank you.

Jacen continues to be the character I want to love, but can't. Once again because he sets off my common sense radar repeatedly. Jacen received his "look at me, I can make prequel connections!" time-walking power in the last book. This makes his entire "need" for Sith training from the last living Sith completely contrived, he could Time-Walk back and watch any Jedi Master or Sith instruct their own students in the decades past - or even eons perhaps.

I'm still going to pick up the next book (Tempest), but I'm a bit more concerned with where they're headed with Legacy now. I don't like when they do 160 degree turns (not quite 180 :) ) with decades old characters, all but ignoring expanded universe lore in favor of Prequel snippets.

Ugh, I wish Boba had stayed in the Sarlacc.

Ugh, I wish Boba had stayed in the Sarlacc.

Me, too... I thought the book stank....

One would think that after Jacen's little time-walking episode he'd know better than to trust a Sith... I keep hoping Ben will decapitate him with his lightsaber....

And how many references do we need between Han Solo and the term "cold blooded killer"... Han shot first, people need to live with that!

Watch who you're calling an Old Fossil!!! ;

Sometimes thats what I wish "old man", and can't believe I'm thinking it because I used to be a big fan of Boba Fett and the Mandolorians, now I just loathe them, and as for Ben Skywalker thinking about Mandolorians, it seems odd that Ben Skywalker would think about them he's the son of Luke Skywalker, he's above them. Over all I liked Bloodlines.

Thank goodness I'm not alone :D

One would think that after Jacen's little time-walking episode he'd know better than to trust a Sith... I keep hoping Ben will decapitate him with his lightsaber....

Or at least not be so interested in obtaining the amazing Sith power to... kill children. Jacen can already time-walk and fling people around a room! What does he need anything else for? :)

And how many references do we need between Han Solo and the term "cold blooded killer"... Han shot first, people need to live with that!

I'd actually need to go back and look for that again. I was more concerned with whether Han dressing up in a Boba Fett costume was supposed to be blatant fan-service or not. ?:|

Ugh, I wish Boba had stayed in the Sarlacc.
Then what? Let memories of his pap hurt him as he endures the evils of monster that can telepathically torture its food for the next thousand or so years?

Anyway......poor Boba. Always being hurt by the fact that a bald guy with a purple glowstick cut his dad's head off.

Also, nice Clone Wars style artwork. Has Rive seen Gahmah's (which is not really as good)

Haven't started the LOTF books yet, and I don't know if and when I will. I think I want out well before Luke, Leia and Han reach grandparent status. And Boa Fett is a very dead horse at this point, at least in my book. He did die in the Sarlaac pit as far as I'm concerned. There's only so much EU pushing the envelope this nostalgic OT fan can take.

I get nostalgic remembering the theatre audiences cheering when he fell in!!! B-)

I actually skipped Bloodlines as what I heard about it didn't interest me, but I am reading Tempest and enjoying it very much! Give it a try Rive! I'm having no problem and what I missed in Bloodlines isn't affecting me at all. There's no Boba in the book what-so-ever! Yea! :)

:^O

I dunno.....I LOVED Bloodlines, I really don't mind the prequel references. I'll take that over the Alema Rar baloney in Tempest.....ugh. And the prequels ended 59, not 62 years ago (ROTS=LOTF-59, AOTC=LOTF-62) I think Boba finally becoming a family man was a nice touch. Also, the possibility of him having prologed/unlimited life is just plain AWESOME. Go immortality! We have to get a little more of that into Star Wars.

My theory is that the persons claiming Boba Fett is still alive moonlight for the Enquirer writing stories about Elvis' last sighting at the mini-mart. I mean, the Sarlacc even burped

Whoops, Legacy comic book Luke is a Great-Great-Great *falls asleep*

For Boba's purposes the prequels ended 62 years ago because he wasn't in ROTS. :)

It's not a bad start, the weapons look quite nice (though you need to use a ruler for the barrels). If I were you I'd focus on proportions next. Your legs are rather stubby.

Compare - Stubby Long

I'm working on backgrounds personally, because I can't do them... at all. :)

Gahmah also knows Psychus' limbs were a little short too, but Gahmah was using a smaller sketchbook at that time. Gahmah hopes to do more remakes.

You've brought tears to a middle age woman's eyes...sniff, sniff. :_|

I hated the freaking book...The main characters were weak, the plot weak and Mandos being crammed down my throat made me want to burn all my Star Wars books....Rant over.

Sorry about that...I agree with you 100%, Rive. :D

Actually, I really liked it; I thought that Jacen's descent into darkness was very believable and the Boba Fett storyline actually was pretty good, which is high praise considering I'm not a Fett fan at all.
