How did the Ewoks beat one of the Empire's best legions?!?
Another blog today which although I've seen before got me thinking. "Sure, the whole point of the battle was showing the meek can overthrow the powerful, but why not have a better in-universe explanation?

"Almost every Stormtrooper at the Battle of Endor was part of "An entire legion of the Emperor's best troops" (based off the quote from Palpatine: "An entire legion of my best troops awaits them! Oh, I'm afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive.") thusly it was composed of many of the final clones still fit to fight.

The failing of this was that they were so programmed to only follow orders, that when the Ewoks attacked the clone troops were incapable of fighting back because their only order was "Capture the Rebel scum" nothing about shooting natives. The panicking commanders were too busy fleeing from the Ewok army to bark some orders to the last bit of old-fashioned Jango soldiers (Stormtrooper armor was nigh impervious except upon repeated beating, but the officers were afraid of getting a nasty blow to the head or arrow in the back) .

Thusly the ATST pilots and the few non-clonetroopers in the Emperor's legion (who were less skilled in any case) were able to fight back against the Ewoks, and failed miserably against their overwhelming numbers."

I'm not sure if I like it myself, since I'm currently firmly in the realm of thought that all clonetroopers would be dead and outlawed by Episode IV, still...

Does this seem to work for you?

why woud clones be outlawed by episode IV? i can see what you're saying and it's a good point. i've always had a hard time believing that these little Ewoks could push back the galaxies GREATEST ARMY. i even found it a bit hard to believe when Han, Luke, Chewie and the gang were held hostage by these little guys. you could punt these guys without a sweat. no effort. just a drop kick and there flies the little hamsters.

My question is : How many Stormtroopers, AT-AT's, AT-ST's, Speederbikes etc are in a legion? And whats more is : How many Ewoks are there on Endor that can get to the battle in time? I think the Empire would be out-numbered at least 10 to 1 if not more. The outcome of the battle depends on numbers alone, not training or technology. Unfortunatly in 1983 Lucas did not have the means to show 100,000 Ewoks in battle.(Which I think he should have added to the special editions !)

Oh, also. The Empire could have still been producing clones during the OT. No?

actulay by that time the empire was acepting ne one to join the army so they wernt programed to follow orders not just clones though they used clones from several different hosts
..(thus explaing y stormtroopers r such bad shots u wouldnt expect that commin from jango DNA)
but i still dont like the role they playd they should just left the log trapts and hid then we could see some rebel vs empire firefights that wouldhave been so much better and they could still help capture the AT-ST
and still there would be a moral about little things standing up and helping to make a difference so itd be cool
