Obi-Wan Kenobi?
Just a quick thought today.

A Long Time Ago, in a Galaxy Far Far Away the Star Wars Prequels didn't exist.

So us old-timers had only Alec Guinness' portrayal of Obi-Wan to go on. I didn't even think about his until just now, but back then "Ben Kenobi" was used more often than "Obi-Wan Kenobi" or at least, interchangeably.

So now with 6 more hours of Ewan McGregor being referred to exclusively as Obi-Wan do you personally find yourself referring to our Jedi friend as "Ben" at all anymore?

I do, but not nearly as often as I used to ;

"I haven't gone by the name Ben since oh, before Episode 1 came out."

Addition: Comparison between how many times he's called Ben vs. Obi-Wan

Episode IV:

14 Lines have him called "Obi-Wan"
9 have him called "Ben"

Episode V:

7 Lines have him called "Obi-Wan"
8 have him called "Ben"

Episode VI:

4 Lines have him called "Obi-Wan"
2 have him called "Ben"

Yes, but Vader says "Obi-Wan has taught you well" and "Obi-Wan can no longer help him."

Yeah, I have this thing about reffering to people by their proper names, so I never really called him Ben anyway. But I've noticed that a lot of fans who saw the OT as kids or teens or whatever still think of him as Ben, while people who got into SW recently think of him as Obi-Wan. Weird, but whatever. Ben and Obi-Wan are both cool names.

If you see the begaining of Indiana Jones: The Temple of Doom, when the little kid is driving the car, in the chase scene, away from the club you will see that the club is called club "Obi-Wan." Cool, is it not?:)

I know what you mean, but actually, I always liked to call him by his "Jedi name" so I usually call him Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, when writing a blog, if I am referring to the Original Trilogy Kenobi, then I call him "Ben" Kenobi. When referring to the Preguel Trilogy Kenobi, I call him "Obi-Wan" Kenobi.

yes, I agree with Z-score. when I'm talking about the PT, he's Obi-Wan, and when it's the OT, he's usualy Ben, sometimes Obi-Wan. it all depends.

That's a very good point, and it would have been cool if someone (possibly Bail, who Ben was clearly a friend of, or maybe commander cody) had been the one to call him "Ben."
Saying that, I've often thought that Ben was his given name and Obi-Wan his Jedi name, but that's just a theory of my own.
Who knows, maybe Ewan will agree to do the odd appearance in the TV show and we'll learn where the Ben name came from.

Thinking about it, it was likely a name either he himself or Owen came up with to hide the fact he was the legendary Jedi Knight who was famed throughout the galaxy until he was condemned as a traitor of the Republic. In truth it would have made more sense if he went by a totally different name (and Luke wasn't known as Skywalker, a name with such HUGE galactic importance - why wasn't he raised as Luke Lars? Why risk detection?)

Anakin has only ever known him as Obi-Wan and Master, so that's obviously how Vader would refer to him. However, when Lucas came up with the name Darth Vader it's more than likely that it was his genuine name and Darth was his forename, Vader his surname ("You can't win Darth." etc) Of course, we can retrofit things and say that Ben was getting under his skin by refusing to refer to him by his proper name, but thats another blog entry!
